Online Retailer Carvana Expands Service Area

Carvana, the 100-percent online auto retailer that launched nine months ago in the Atlanta market, is going national.
The company — which offers a platform for shoppers to browse vehicles, find financing and coordinate delivery all online — announced an expanded service area on Thursday, which it said was made possible by new delivery and pick-up options.
Shoppers can choose to have the vehicles they purchase through the site shipped directly to them (for a delivery fee), or pick it up in Atlanta at what Carvana described as its “new state-of-the-art car vending machine” at no additional charge.
Either option comes with a seven-day “test own” return policy, the company said.
Carvana said its delivery rates are based on its national service areas.
If a customer is located within 75 miles of Atlanta, delivery on his or her purchase is free. If the buyer is between 76 miles and 250 miles from Atlanta, the flat fee for delivery is $199 (and, again, picking it up at the “vending machine” is free).
Buyers who are 251 miles or further outside Atlanta can choose home delivery or get a voucher for one-way transportation to Atlanta, where the company’s “white glove pick-up service” drops them off at the vending machine station.
This station, which was also announced Thursday, is located in the West Midtown neighborhood of Atlanta and includes three bays for vehicle pickup.
“The cutting-edge facility was established to offer customers increased flexibility on pick-up options after purchasing a vehicle online at Carvana.com,” the company indicated on its website.
“The structure provides a full digitally interactive experience complete with floor-to-ceiling windows, custom LED lighting, flat screen TV’s and interactive keypads that identify customers based on unique buyer credentials provided by Carvana after the purchase has been completed,” it continued.
“With around-the-clock pick up availability, vehicles purchased on Carvana.com will be available for test drive and pick up as early as 24-hours.”
Carvana indicated that it will have representatives on site to answer questions. The company also noted that this vending machine concept plays a big role in its expansion plans, as Carvana intends to roll out additional vending machine locations next year.
