FRANKLIN, Tenn. -

The latest session of Auction Academy was set to a rock ’n’ roll background, as its Managers Group convened in Spokane, Wash., just in time for DAA Northwest’s Rock ’n’ Roll Sale.

A continuing education program developed by TPC Management Co., for professionals in the auto auction industry, Auction Academy’s latest class met July 15-17 for the session, which included a presentation by Len Roll of DAA Northwest on vehicle detailing, body shop services, and condition reports.

Also speaking to the group was Greg Mahugh, co-owner of DAANW, and Mitzi Voorhis, marketing manager at DAANW, who described the DAANW philosophy and process for its nationally-recognized promotions.

The class toured the DAA Northwest facilities and observed preparations for its two-day Rock ’n’ Roll sale. They also heard a presentation by Auction Edge executives David Weld, chief executive officer, and Dan Diedrich, senior vice president of sales and marketing, on technology developments for independent auctions pioneered by the company since it was formed just over a year ago.

Greg Lubrani, chief operating officer of Liquid Motors, described the multi-platform online sale capability developed by that company, and its new integrations with Auction Edge.

Students heard from David Woods of Harley Davidson Financial Services, who have an overview of the powersports industry and the HDFS remarketing process, and from Charlie Vogelheim on the evolution of the auto industry and predictions for its future.

Pierre Pons, president of TPC Management, led academy students through an exercise on sales plan forecasting/budgeting and the use of key dynamic metrics unique to each auction operation.

Mike Antich of Bobit Publishing presented on media, public relations and conferences, and the students enjoyed a barbecue at the home of Bob and Sandy McConkey.

“The session at DAA Northwest was a very intensive two-day program designed to thoroughly immerse the students in the planning and execution of promotional sales,” said Dick Curtis, president of Auction Academy.

“Auction promotions are key tools in attracting dealer clients; the ideas gained at this session of Auction Academy will be of great benefit.”

Auction Academy’s next session takes place the week of Aug. 19 in Dallas, when the Next Generation/Sons & Daughters Class Group will meet in conjunction with the IARA Summer Roundtable.
