In the new-car market, the electric vehicle segment was up 51.3% year-over-year with 106,562 EV sales during the third quarter, according to Kelley Blue Book.

Year-to-date, there have been 323,479 new EV sales, KBB said, which is an 88.2% hike.

But the influx of EVs isn’t just happening in the new-vehicle market.

As the wholesale auto industry readies itself for more electrics making their way into auction channels in coming years, AutoIMS crunched the numbers on what the EV picture currently looks like in the wholesale market.

Looking specifically at the EVs coming through AutoIMS in 2021, there have been 13,400 electrics sold year-to-date, the company said in its third-quarter AutoIMS Industry View, which is a recap of data metrics gathered through the AutoIMS Sales Scorecard.

The average sale price on these vehicles was $26,048.  The model year was 2017.1, on average, andt typical EV had 31,376 miles.

The average grade on these EVs was 3.88, and an electric typically took 39.2 days to sell.

For comparison’s sake, the AutoIMS data shows that the average sale price on all vehicles during the third quarter was $15,524.75. The average vehicle grade was 2.87.

The average model year was 2014.6, with EVs having an average mileage of 87,233.
