SACRAMENTO, Calif. –
Cooler air so far means softening prices in the lanes, according to John Brasher, in his Brasher’s Sacramento post-auction report for Tuesday.
Over the past few weeks, he says all segments have been affected by a softening that, “Frankly, I think was overdue.
“This summer the market seemed to get stronger and stronger; we saw 1- or 2-year-old cars reach wholesale prices to where they competed too much with new cars,” Brasher said. “So those adjustments needed to happen, and we’re seeing them happen now.”
While dealers reported a good overall retail week in the region across segments, Brasher noted that many say they’re still having trouble finding the right cars for their lots.
On the flip side of the equation, dealers are being selective of the cars they buy in the rental segment, where volumes are increasing.
“That market (rental) is still holding its own, but prices are adjusting down,” Brasher said.

Upcoming events at Brasher’s Sacramento include an Oct. 22 celebration of the Brasher company’s 64th anniversary in business. The consignment day will include free lunch and prizes, Brasher said.
