Two of the industry’s most prominent independent auto auctions will soon fly under the Manheim banner.

Cox Automotive, Manheim’s parent, said Tuesday it has signed a deal with BSC America to acquire the company’s Bel Air Auto Auction in the Baltimore area and its Tallahassee Auto Auction in Florida.

The acquisition is expected to close in coming weeks.

At that time, Bel Air Auto Auction and Tallahassee Auto Auction will join Cox Automotive’s wholesale marketplace and operate under the Manheim brand.

The 450-plus team members at the two auctions will join Cox Automotive.

The transaction price was not disclosed.

Bel Air Auto Auction, located in Belcamp, Md., is BSC America’s flagship auction and has been operating for 78 years. Tallahassee Auto Auction opened in 1995.

The BSC America auctions joined ServNet in 2008.

“For decades, we have worked closely with the BSC team as friendly competitors and partners, and today, we are excited to welcome them into the Cox Automotive family,” said Grace Huang, president of Cox Automotive Inventory Solutions, in a news release.

“This acquisition comes as Manheim celebrates its 80th anniversary and is a testament to the fact that the world’s largest auto auction is continuing to grow and expand its presence in important markets and empower even more clients with the tools, technology and services they need to make more informed buying and selling decisions for their automotive businesses,” she said.

R. Charles Nichols is president of BSC America and a second-generation auction owner. His father Raymond Nichols is the company’s chairman/CEO and his sister Michelle Nichols-Neff is executive vice president.

In the release, he said: “While we knew the time was right for our family to shift our business focus, it was deeply important to us that our auctions were set up for continued success and growth. With Cox Automotive’s continued commitment to — and investment in — its wholesale business, along with our shared values as family-owned companies, we are confident in the bright future ahead for our Bel Air and Tallahassee locations.”
