GAINESVILLE, Ga. -

Black Book has shared with Auto Remarketing news of its entire team of vehicle value editors and data analysts earning distinction as Certified Automotive Remarketers as part of the program from the International Automotive Remarketers Alliance.

This is the first time that an entire editorial staff of guide book has achieved this certification, Black Book said.

Only 64 people have become CAR Certified  and that group includes Black Book senior vice president and editorial director Ricky Beggs, who was actually the third person ever to achieve this designation from IARA. He received certification back in 2009, then was recertified in 2013 as part of the program.

“The process of becoming certified is designed to take up to three years to complete, yet we challenged our team to complete the program in 10 months,” said Beggs.

They responded by doing it in six months.

And one editor passed all 20 modules on the first attempt in a five-week span.

“This significant accomplishment is just the latest example of our commitment to continuous improvement and learning,” said Tom Cross, Black Book president. “The better our team of editors understands the industry, the more accurate we can report and interpret the market, ultimately helping our clients make the most profitable decisions possible.”

The program runs the gamut of the remarketing business, covering consignment, auction selection, reconditioning, arbitration, and condition reporting.

“I have been attending auctions and classifying vehicles for many years, and the CAR certification has provided me with an entirely new perspective of the complexities involved with remarketing,” said Terry Park, senior editor of Black Book.

Josh Giles, senior truck editor for Black Book, added:  “The CAR program has really opened my eyes to all the auction processes and I now have a much better understanding of what happens before, during and after the physical and online auction. The certification program has been extremely beneficial in my understanding of all auction processes, rules and terminology.”

Earning CAR designation requires industry professions to pass 20 course modules, which are designed to foster a deeper and broader understanding of the business – including the unique needs of all the working parts of the industry: remarketers, dealers, fleet managers and auto lenders.

“Being CAR Certified tells the industry that Black Book editors are part of an elite group of professionals dedicated to being the best,” said Stephen Houston, IARA acting executive director. “This accomplishment shows that Black Book is committed to providing industry leadership and focused on helping their editors be the best they can within the remarketing profession.”

Dave Sutton, the chairman of the CAR Certification Committee who recently chatted with Auto Remarketing about the expanded opportunities for CAR testing, said: “Black Book has proven to be a very proactive company by engaging their team in the pursuit to become Certified Automotive Remarketers.

“Education and training comes in many forms but the IARA’s member-developed curriculum is the most comprehensive source of automotive remarketing knowledge in the world.”
