SALISBURY, N.C. –
Just after Auto Remarketing recognized the contributions of women within the auto industry in its April 15–30 issue, a female auctioneer is being hailed as unique in the wholesale side of the business.
Becky Tarlton, whose story was recently published in the Salisbury Post, is licensed as an auctioneer in North and South Carolina and Virginia. She’s known for her “sing-songy” style of calling at the Mendenhall Auto Auction, where she’s worked since 2000.
More than a bid-caller, Tarlton and other auctioneers must also be able to “write contracts, accept consignments, advertise, offer items for sale, accept payments and disperse the monies collected,” the article noted.
Tarlton also serves on the auction floor as a grinder or ringman, and teaches auctioneering in North Carolina.
