TORONTO -

In light of the recent floods in Calgary, Manheim Edmonton and Source Auto Auction are teaming up in an effort to raise funds for relief efforts.

The two auctions are offering a 1989 Chevrolet Corvette convertible in an effort to provide aid to flood victims.

The vehicle is donated by Source Auto Auction chief executive officer Danny Fayad, who says the car gives dealers a chance to win a “dream ride” and provide much needed financial assistance.

Here’s how the fundraising will work: Dealers who make a $1,000 donation to help flood victims between now and Aug. 28, will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win the sports car, officials explained.

The drawing is slated for Aug. 29 during Source Auto Auction’s “Hot August Auction” sale.

Fayed — who recently entered into a financial partnership with Manheim Canada, making the location Manheim’s first Western Canada facility  — had been looking for a way to help.

“We all know people affected by the tragic flooding in the Calgary area,” said Fayad.  “My heart goes out to them.  As I heard customers telling stories of the hardship experienced by their friends, families and employees, I wanted to do something.”

Julie Picard, Manheim’s market vice president of pacific operations including Western Canada, and a member of Auto Remarketing’s 2013 class of Women in Remarketing, said, “Serving the communities where we work is an integral part of our Manheim culture.

“All of our locations across Canada will support this effort. Danny’s desire to help employees, customers and their friends and family underscores his great partnership,” she added.
