New senior VP, chief accounting officer for Hertz

Car rental company Hertz Global Holdings has appointed Alexandra (Alex) Brooks as senior vice president and chief accounting officer, and she will oversee the company’s global accounting operations, financial shared services, tax and risk management.

The appointment is effective Nov. 1 for Brooks, who is a certified public accountant with more than 25 years of experience in finance, accounting and audit.

Since June, Brooks served as senior vice president, internal audit, at Hertz.

Before she joined Hertz, Brooks was vice president, internal audit at global technology company, Aptiv PLC. Prior to that, she was chief financial officer for home improvement company, Champion Windows and Home Exteriors.

She held various leadership roles at the General Electric Company.

Those positions included global controller for the aviation segment, executive technical adviser to the corporate audit staff and global controller for the plastics division.

She also worked in various financing and accounting roles for General Motors. Brooks began her career with Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

“In a short time, Alex has made significant contributions to Hertz,” said Hertz executive vice president and chief financial officer Kenny Cheung in a news release. “I know her leadership and extensive accounting, finance and audit experience will continue to serve Hertz well as we further progress our efforts to ensure a strong future for the company.”

New CFO for Hertz Global Holdings

Kenny Cheung, who was recently promoted to executive vice president of finance, chief operational finance and restructuring officer for Hertz Global Holdings, has been named the company's chief financial officer.

Cheung, who previously served as senior vice president of global financial planning and analysis and chief financial officer of North America at Hertz, joined the company in 2018.

Before joining Hertz, Cheung served in financial leadership posts with Nielsen Holdings PLC, most recently as global chief audit executive.  Also during his time with Nielsen, Cheung  served as regional chief operating officer after serving as regional chief financial officer.

Before his time at Nielsen, Cheung was with General Electric with roles in supply chain, operations, and financial planning and analysis.

He has assumed his new role as Hertz CFO,  a move that was effective Thursday.

In the new post, Cheung succeeds R. Eric Esper, who resigned to pursue a new opportunity. Esper will remain with Hertz as chief accounting officer until Nov 1 to assist in the transition.

“Kenny has developed a deep understanding of our business, and we’re pleased that he is stepping into this role and expanding his financial leadership responsibilities at this important time as we continue taking steps to best position Hertz for the future,” Hertz chief executive officer Paul Stone said in a news release.

Avis Budget Group names interim CEO

Avis Budget Group on Monday said its board of directors has appointed president of the Americas division Joe Ferraro as interim chief executive officer.

Ferraro’s appointment was effective Wednesday and takes place in the wake of former president and chief executive officer Larry De Shon departing at the end of last year.

The company also said its chief financial officer, Americas, Izzy Martins will serve as interim president, Americas. For 15 years, Martins has served in various senior strategic and financial roles for Avis Budget Group.

Chairman of the board Leonard Coleman said in a news release that Ferraro has been a “strong and dynamic leader” during his 40 years at Avis Budget Group.

“As president of the Americas division for the last five years, Joe has driven operational excellence across our business in the Americas,” Coleman said.

He continued, “We are fortunate to have a deep bench of talent at Avis Budget Group, and we are confident that Joe and the rest of our management team will continue to provide steady leadership as we continue our search for a permanent CEO.”

Coleman also thanked De Shon for his contributions and “years of extraordinary leadership.”

Ferraro said, “Over the course of my career with the company, I have seen firsthand how our success is driven by our commitment to delivering quality service for our customers and performance for our shareholders.”

He added, “I look forward to working with our entire global team to continue to execute on our strategy.”
