On Thursday, Advanced Business Computers of America (ABCoA) launched what the software solutions provider for independent dealerships and subprime auto finance companies believes is a customer relationship management (CRM) solution built specifically for BHPH operators.
ABCoA added cyclCRM, which is geared to be completely integrated and bi-directional with the Deal Pack dealer management software (DMS) to be an all-in-one BHPH technology ecosystem.
ABCoA estimated that the average dealership uses 10 to 15 disparate software products, making it challenging to connect the dots and properly service the customer. The company said Deal Pack and cyclCRM work as one to enhance operations and eliminate friction in the customer experience, merging together a host of information, including accounting, contract, payment, service and delinquency information as well as customers’ purchase and payment history, needs and preferences
ABCoA explained that Deal Pack and cyclCRM can streamline BHPH operations and ensure the highest level of success by eliminating double entry, providing true equity mining through analysis of sales and collection activity, increasing profitability with personalized marketing campaigns powered by artificial intelligence, and creating a complete 360-degree view of the customer’s lifecycle.
In a news release, Wheels of Chicago president Allen Levit said, “cyclCRM is a super robust platform that allows us to constantly be in front of our clients with multiple touch points and to interact with clients in a very unique and special way. ABCoA makes software easy in a very difficult business.”
Coupled with Deal Pack, ABCoA went on to note that cyclCRM can provide a completely online vehicle-shopping experience from lead origination to desking, electronic contracting, and delivery.
The company said cyclCRM “campaigns” can increase lead conversion rates through automated processes and prospects are worked in an entirely compliant manner.
ABCoA added that cyclCRM “scoring” features custom scoring models and origination tools that can automate decision-making and streamline financing for a compliant, instantaneous, and ever-improving underwriting process.
Furthermore, the company said cyclCRM “workplans” are custom, user-defined workflows that can prompt action to drive performance.
“Consumers receive outstanding, personalized experiences from retailers like Amazon and Apple. Now they can expect the same with their vehicle acquisition and service needs,” ABCoA president Jonathan Hedy said.
“By building an integrated ecosystem with next-generation technology, we created superior consumer experiences and enabled far greater operational efficiencies and profitability for buy here pay here used car dealers and lenders,” Hedy went on to say..
To learn more about how the integration with Deal Pack and cyclCRM can benefit BHPH dealerships, ABCoA is hosting a webinar at 2 p.m. (ET) on Oct. 14. To register, go to www.dealpack.com/company-events.
America’s Car-Mart began October by expanding its buy-here, pay-here dealership footprint in Oklahoma with the first new store opening of its 2022 fiscal year.
Car-Mart’s 152nd dealership came aboard as the company recently purchased the ongoing assets of The Car Man LLC in El Reno.
This location will be Car-Mart’s 29th dealership in Oklahoma.
“We are excited about this opportunity to add another location to our portfolio to better serve new and existing customers in Oklahoma,” Car-Mart president and chief executive officer Jeff Williams said in a news release. “Oklahoma is a great market for Car-Mart, and we look forward to helping more customers from our new El Reno location.
“More than ever, and as we celebrate our 40th year in business this year, we place a great deal of pride in helping our customers. We believe our Car-Mart brand is a comfort factor for our customers, who know they can count on us when they need us,” Williams continued. “We are committed to providing peace of mind for our customers and we believe communities are better when we are there. We have high expectations for El Reno.”
This new dealership is located at 2119 E. Highway 66 in El Reno. The dealership will be managed by Armin Horn.
“We’re excited about joining the El Reno community,” Horn said. “We have great cars outside and great people inside. We offer a unique buying experience by providing our customers flexible payment terms and excellent service after the vehicle sale so that we can continue to meet their needs and budget.”
“All of us at Car-Mart are looking forward to serving El Reno,” Horn continued. “We plan to put a smile on our customers’ faces with great vehicles and exceptional customer service. We’re going to do amazing things.”
Car-Mart is celebrating its 40th year in business and was recently named to the 2021 list of America’s Best Small Companies by Forbes magazine. Additionally, the company adopted its new tagline, “Keeping You on the Road” last October and has sold more than 700,000 vehicles since fiscal year 2000.
America’s Car-Mart chief financial officer Vickie Judy appearance on the Auto Remarketing Podcast coincided with the company that has a network of 151 buy-here, pay-here dealerships celebrating another achievement.
In the midst of celebrating its 40th anniversary, Car-Mart also was recently named to Forbes’ 2021 list of America’s Best Small Companies.
The companies comprising the Best Small Companies list were chosen by Forbes based on a market value between $300 million and $2 billion, positive sales growth during the past 12 months and a share price of at least $5.
According to a news release the rankings are based on earnings growth and sales growth for the latest 12 months and over five years, one-year and five-year return on equity and 52-week total return. More weight was given to the latest-12 month and one-year data in the ranking.
All data used was as of Nov. 25, 2020.
“We are honored to be named one of America’s best small companies. It is our dedication to customer experience and the hard work of our associates that makes America’s Car-Mart great. Our new tagline, ‘Keeping You on the Road’ says it all,” Car-Mart president and chief executive officer Jeff Williams said in the news release.
“Our associates live out our mission, vision and values and give our customers peace of mind with their local transportation needs. We strongly believe local communities are better when we are there, and we are proud of our company and excited about our future,” Williams continued.
And that company future is one of the topics Judy discussed with senior editor Nick Zulovich during this podcast, which can be heard by clicking on the link available below, or visit the Auto Remarketing Podcast page.

Along with Manheim getting involved to benefit the NIADA Foundation, independent dealers from across the nation are excited to reconnect with their peers during the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association Convention and Expo that is live and in person once again for the first time in more than two years.
Pierrot Abiramia and Andreia Elmasri of Milford Auto Mall are among the dealers who have traveled to San Antonio for the events that began on Monday.
“It’s a great thing to be here,” Abiramia said in a news release distributed by NIADA, “to see people face to face and to be open to everything that’s going on in the industry.”
“With the pandemic, we all stepped back for a second to regroup in terms of knowledge, to think of what we need to do to improve,” Elmasri added. “This convention brings people from all over the country with new knowledge and new ideas, and that can help all of us.
“That’s the main thing I think we’ll get out of this convention. How did you come out of what we went through? What did you do to get better? It’s a lot of sharing information,” Elmasri went on to say.
Last year, the convention had to be a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the festivities opened Monday at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio as NIADA is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
NIADA said more than 1,000 independent vehicle dealers and exhibitors have registered to attend the 75th annual convention as the industry gathers to celebrate the milestone anniversary, present awards to honor the best in the business, meet and network, find the latest products and services in the expo hall and learn from the most comprehensive dealer training in the independent space.
The education agenda, featuring some 60 sessions in four tracks — retail, buy-here, pay-here, service and general — began Tuesday morning with a session led by Joe Lescota. It also includes top speakers such as NABD founder Ken Shilson, “Bulldog of the Service Drive” Chris Collins, attorney Steve Levine, Doug Hadden of ACV Auctions, Agora Data’s Chris Barry, financial specialist Mark Burkholder, independent dealer and marketing expert Tracy Myers and many more.
And new for 2021 is The Service Bay, a series of 20-minute micro-sessions on Tuesday that gave dealers hands-on insight into service, reconditioning and fixed ops solutions that can save them time and money.
The keynote speaker is Hall of Fame wide receiver and NFL Network football analyst Michael Irvin, who earned the nickname “The Playmaker” as a star for collegiate national champion Miami and later helped lead the Dallas Cowboys to three Super Bowl titles in the 1990s.
Irvin, appearing courtesy of ACV Auctions, is scheduled to speak Wednesday afternoon, and will be available for a meet and greet session afterward at the ACV booth in the Expo Hall.
In addition, the convention included social events such as the popular Cigars and Margaritas welcome reception, Tuesday’s National Leadership Awards and Expo Hall Grand Opening, and Thursday’s National Quality Dealer Award ceremony.

Manheim makes vehicle donation to help NIADA Foundation
For the ninth consecutive year, the NIADA Convention and Expo will include the auction of a front-line ready used vehicle to benefit the NIADA Foundation.
This year the vehicle was donated by Manheim, which will conduct the auction in the event’s Expo Hall on the final day of the convention.
This year’s vehicle is a sleek silver and black 2010 Ford Mustang GT with a 4.6-liter V8 engine and just 60,913 miles on the odometer. The car will be on display in the expo hall during NIADA’s 75th annual Convention and Expo
The auction will be held at 2 p.m. (CT) on Thursday at the NIADA Dealer Lounge in the center of the Expo Hall.
The association said Autosled will transport the vehicle free for the winning bidder to any location in the continental U.S.
All proceeds from the auction will benefit the NIADA Foundation, which coordinates the association’s commitment to charitable giving and education.
In addition to making numerous donations to charities nationwide and providing matching funds for local charitable projects, the foundation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to assist members of the automotive community affected by hurricanes and other disasters, and has established endowments that fund university scholarships for students pursuing careers in the automotive industry.
“We value our relationship with NIADA and its dealer members and are proud to donate a vehicle to benefit the NIADA Foundation,” Manheim San Antonio general manager Mike Browning said in another news release from the association.
“Manheim welcomes opportunities to give back and assist with charitable and other needs at the local level, something that the foundation does so well,” Browning continued.
The previous eight benefit auctions have raised a total of $196,000 to support the foundation’s initiatives.
In an online auction held during the 2020 NIADA Virtual Convention and Expo, a 2019 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Fastback sold for $20,300 to Illinois dealer Eric Nelson.

Chosen Payments joins NIADA as National Corporate Partner
In other association news, Chosen Payments, a division of Aurora Payments and a leading payment technology and software provider, has partnered with NIADA as a Bronze-level National Corporate Partner.
NIADA said the move will give its members access to the lowest credit card processing rates and most advance payment technology for increased efficiency and productivity.
The association highlighted Chosen Payments has a large presence in the automotive industry. Its clients include franchised and independent dealerships, repair shops, body shops and other auto-related businesses of all sizes throughout the nation.
“We truly believe Chosen Payments’ combination of pricing, service and technology will bring tremendous value to our members,” NIADA vice president of member services James Gibson said in another news release.
The new partnership brings a valuable member benefit, drastically reducing the cost of accepting credit card transaction for NIADA members
Through the National Corporate Partnership program, NIADA used the collective buying strength of its 15,000-plus members to negotiate guaranteed savings on credit card processing, electric checks and other payment processing application and financial services.
“We’re very excited to have been selected among such an elite group of vendors supporting the NIADA members as National Corporate Partners,” Chosen Payments vice president of sales Branden Anderson said.
NIADA’s partnership with Aurora and Chosen Payments also includes a side-by-side comparison of any NIADA member’s current credit card processing fees.
If Chosen Payments is unable to beat the current processing rates of a member, Chosen Payments will pay the member’s NIADA membership dues the following year for simply participating in a rate comparison.

Several noteworthy events happened in August of 1981, including the launch of MTV, IBM beginning sales of personal computers running the Microsoft operating system, the end of strike in Major League Baseball and the start of the buy-here, pay-here industry journey of America’s Car-Mart.
Now one of the largest publicly held automotive retailers, Car-Mart is commemorating its 40th year in business this month. Back in 1981, the company set out a vision to help credit-challenged customers find a vehicle that makes a difference in their lives.
Founder Bill Fleeman opened the first Car-Mart in a converted Dog n’ Suds fast food operation in Rogers, Ark. According to a company news release, that store featured quality, used vehicles and flexible financing.
The company said Fleeman’s purpose was to provide a good value for the customers’ money.
Now with more than 2,000 associates, 151 dealerships in 12 states and more than 88,000 customers, Car-Mart emphasized that its vision has never wavered from its mission of earning the repeat business of its customers by providing quality vehicles, affordable payment terms and excellent service.
“This is an incredible milestone for our company, our associates and our customers,” Car-Mart president and chief executive officer Jeff Williams said in the news release. “Over four decades of change in the used-car industry, one thing has remained the same. We have stayed true to our roots, always focused on giving customers peace-of-mind by keeping them on the road and helping them succeed.
“And we could not have achieved our outstanding success without the dedication and hard work of our talented associates at Car-Mart. Their passion for helping people comes through in everything they do,” Williams continued.
“So, as we celebrate this milestone, we are proud of our achievements, and we look forward to the next 40 years of taking care of customers and ensuring we earn their repeat business,” he went on to say.

For buy-here, pay-here operators who received a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan of $150,000 or less, they might not have to repay the amount.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) launched a streamlined application portal to allow borrowers with PPP loans of $150,000 or less through participating lenders to apply for forgiveness directly through the SBA.
“The SBA’s new streamlined application portal will simplify forgiveness for millions of our smallest businesses — including many sole proprietors — who used funds from our Paycheck Protection Program loans to survive the pandemic,” Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman said in a news release. “The vast majority of businesses waiting for forgiveness have loans under $150,000.
“These entrepreneurs are busy running their businesses and are challenged by an overly complicated forgiveness process. We need to deliver forgiveness more efficiently so they can get back to enlivening our Main Streets, sustaining our neighborhoods and fueling our nation’s economy,” Casillas Guzman continued.
SBA highlighted this new change will help rush relief to more than 6.5 million smallest of small businesses.
The new forgiveness platform began to accept applications from borrowers on Wednesday.
SBA said lenders are required to opt-in to this program through https://directforgiveness.sba.gov.
SBA said more than 600 banks have opted in to direct forgiveness, enabling over 2.17 million borrowers to apply through the portal. Officials indicated this represents 30% of loans $150,000 or less that have not yet been submitted for forgiveness.
“As one of the leading PPP lenders in the nation, Customers Bank is proud to partner with SBA to deliver responsive digital loan forgiveness service to the small business borrowers,” Customers Bank president and chief executive officer Sam Sidhu said in the news release.
“The streamlined and efficient SBA PPP loan forgiveness portal will help borrowers and lenders move forward with economic growth and job creation following the pandemic. We encourage other lenders to join Customers Bank and opt-in to the SBA portal.”
In addition to the technology platform, the SBA is setting up a PPP customer service team to answer questions and directly assist borrowers with their forgiveness applications. Borrowers who need assistance or have questions should call (877) 552-2692 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (ET) Monday through Friday.
“This initiative will allow PPP borrowers to put their concerns of achieving full forgiveness behind them and focus on operating and growing their businesses again,” said Patrick Kelley, associate administrator for SBA’s Office of Capital Access.
“We are pleased to be able to assist financial institutions across the U.S. in processing forgiveness applications for small business owners,” Kelley added.
This week, the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association continued its revamp of moderators and trainers who will oversee the organization’s dealer 20 groups.
Joining Ed Curry, who came aboard last month, NIADA welcomed Bill Elizondo and Ben Goodman, whose backgrounds include all crucial segments of being a buy-here, pay-here operator, from inventory management to underwriting and delivery to collections.
Both Elizondo and Goodman will work with NIADA’s BHPH 20 Groups, as well as leading dealer training classes and conducting on-site consulting.
“The addition of Ben, Bill Elizondo and Ed Curry as moderators and consultants provide the foundation necessary to make NIADA’s 20 Group and dealer development programs the best in the independent dealer space,” NIADA vice president of industry insights and analysis Larry Dixon said in a news release.
Goodman has spent the past 11 years with Byrider, one of the nation’s largest BHPH franchise operations. He began as general manager of multiple Byrider dealerships in Cincinnati, winning the regional Dealership of the Year award three times in his first five years.
Goodman was then named GM of Byrider’s newly developed business development center, designing and operating an internal BDC for 21 Byrider corporate stores and increasing dealership traffic through Internet lead conversions.
When his program proved a success, it was implemented at 67 Byrider franchisees.
Goodman later served as a Byrider franchise consultant, maximizing franchisee profitability through benchmark performance analysis, action planning, interactive training and onsite and virtual visits. He organized and moderated Byrider 20 Group meetings, bootcamps, panel discussions and conventions, as well as serving on planning, implementation and training committees in all phases of BHPH operations.
“We’re incredibly pleased to have someone of Ben's quality and experience on the team,” Dixon said. “His extensive BHPH dealership, training and moderating experience make him an ideal leader for NIADA's 20 Groups and dealer development programs.
Before joining Byrider, Goodman spent nearly 16 years with CitiFinancial, rising to district vice president of operations, responsible for all operations of seven subprime consumer finance branches in Columbus, Ohio, and surrounding markets.
“NIADA is a world-class organization with a proven track record of success for its members,” Goodman said. “The team of subject matter experts they've put together across all platforms is unsurpassed. I'm humbled and excited to become a part of this tradition and I can’t wait to get started.”
Meanwhile, helping NIADA member dealers will not be new for Elizondo, who comes to NIADA from AFS Dealers, where he was serving as chief operating officer and responsible for developing and conducting training programs and in-dealership consulting to support BHPH/LHPH dealer performance improvement and revenue growth.
He has also been part of NIADA, NABD and many of NIADA’s affiliated state association since 1995.
“No other consultant has come even close to having the impact on my business that Bill has had,” said Nick Markosian, chief executive officer of Markosian Automotive in Utah, in a news release. “He really gets in the weeds to find solutions. I can’t wait to see how he puts his unbounded energy and enthusiasm into helping us become better operators.”
Elizondo’s experience the BHPH industry goes back more than 30 years, beginning in 1990 with CAR Financial Services (formerly Wells Fargo Financial), where his responsibilities included profit, hiring, training, underwriting and collections, and he rose to national accounts director.
He later served as created director of collections practices and review, and vice president of operations for America's Car-Mart, the nation’s largest publicly held BHPH dealership, working with and managing 29 dealerships totaling more than 10,000 accounts and $86 million in receivables.
He moved from that role to director of strategic growth and development and later director of sales for Superior Auto, another large BHPH operation known for outstanding collections.
During that stint, his job included running a dealership and personal visits with customers. As sales director, he was responsible for 64 stores – increasing retail sales by 22% and unit sales by 12.5%— and was instrumental in the development of a new sales manual.
“We’re incredibly excited to have Bill on board,” Dixon said. “His deep and diverse experience will help elevate independent dealers’ operational performance. He’ll play an instrumental role in making NIADA’s Dealer 20 Groups, dealer training and education programs best in class.”
Also of note, Elizondo is a marathoner, an All-America masters swimmer and a swimming coach who also has completed an Ironman triathlon.
“I am excited for the opportunity to be a moderator/consultant for NIADA,” Elizondo said. “Following our mission by promoting, educating and advancing our dealers with best practices, insight and increased bottom-line success is what I love to do. Working together will provide a powerful framework for success.”
Larry Dixon, the vice president of industry insights and analysis at the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association, made another visit for an episode of the Auto Remarketing Podcast to discuss the wholesale market and how some current conditions are reminiscent of the stretch after the Great Recession.
Dixon also highlighted how NIADA’s plans for its 75th annual Convention & Expo are coming together.

The National Independent Automobile Dealers Association happily announced this week that Joe Lescota is back.
The auto retail expert and acclaimed dealer educator will once again share his knowledge, experience and insights with independent dealers from across the nation at the 75th annual NIADA Convention and Expo, coming up on Aug. 23-26 in San Antonio.
And, according to NIADA, dealers could not be more thrilled. The association shared multiple enthusiastic reactions to the announcement via a news release.
“Need to be inspired? Need direction? Need a kick in the behind? Joe’s the guy,” said Brenna Stansberry, co-owner and general manager of Park Marina Motors in Redding, Calif., and an NIADA Certified Master Dealer. “So glad he’s back!”
Lescota has provided NIADA members with inspiration, direction and actionable ideas, techniques and strategies for sustainable success for some 20 years.
As chairman of Northwood University’s Automotive Marketing Department, Lescota helped create the Certified Master Dealer program in 2001, and was the lead CMD instructor for 14 years.
Lescota served as NIADA's director of dealer development from 2012 to 2017.
Darla Booher, owner of Deal Depot in Greer, S.C., and NIADA’s 2015 National Quality Dealer, said Lescota’s guidance as CMD instructor “helped me get my business on track.
“I’ve been a sponge ever since,” she said. “If Joe’s speaking, I’m listening.”
Lescota will be speaking twice at the NIADA Convention, leading off the education agenda on Aug. 24 with a session titled “Was Your Bottom Line as Big as You Expected?” and closing it two days later with “Manage Your Inventory to Maximize Your Investment.”
Both sessions are sponsored by Peak Performance, and NIADA said both segments are expected to draw big crowds.
“Joe is a genuine auto industry rock star who packs rooms whenever he speaks,” NIADA vice president of industry insights and analysis Larry Dixon said. “His sessions are a must-see for any dealer who wants to run a more efficient and profitable dealership. My advice: Get there early to make sure you get a seat.”
Lescota said his sessions are “not about today – they’re about tomorrow.”
He added, “Right now, it’s a seller’s market/ But as we all know, what goes up must come down.
“So I’m looking forward to getting back and assisting independents in the arena of education and preparation, from a financial standpoint and a management/leadership standpoint,” he went on to say.
NIADA highlighted that Lescota is among a long list of prominent names scheduled to speak at the used vehicle industry’s premier event.
The education agenda — which includes 60 sessions — features:
— Keynote speaker, Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin
— NABD founder Ken Shilson
— “Bulldog of the Service Drive” Chris Collins
— Attorney Steve Levine
— Doug Hadden of ACV Auctions

— Financial specialist Mark Burkholder
— Independent dealer and marketing expert Tracy Myers
The association also mentioned the event’s expo hall will be packed with more than 150 exhibitors offering the latest products and services designed to help dealerships succeed.
The event includes award ceremonies, networking and special events, celebrating NIADA’s 75th anniversary.

The sessions include a keynote address by Hall of Fame wide receiver and NFL Network football analyst Michael Irvin, who earned the nickname “The Playmaker” as a star for collegiate national champion Miami and later helped lead the Dallas Cowboys to three Super Bowl titles in the 1990s.
Irvin, appearing courtesy of ACV Auctions, is scheduled to speak on Aug. 25. NIADA also said Irvin will be available for a meet-and-greet session afterward at the ACV booth in the expo hall.

NIADA added that a SEMA aftermarket accessorization panel will delve into how aftermarket accessories can help increase profits and improve days to turn, while another panel will discuss the auto parts landscape and provide actionable insights into trends dealers should know.
And here’s something new for 2021. NIADA is rolling out what it’s calling, The Service Drive, a series of 20-minute micro-sessions that are intended to give dealers hands-on insight into service, reconditioning and fixed ops solutions that can save them time and money.
The agenda also includes four sessions totaling 11 hours dedicated exclusively to the event, giving dealers plenty of time to find what they need in the 90,000-square foot expo hall packed with the latest products and services encompassing every area of dealership operations.
The association pointed out the convention venue is easily accessible from San Antonio’s famed River Walk and its restaurants and attractions, as well as NIADA’s headquarters hotel, the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter.
NIADA is again offering three registration tiers — Premium, Classic and Express — allowing attendees to choose their convention experience. And dealers can take advantage of early bird prices through July 25.
