TORONTO, Ontario — In response to Jeff Watson, MP for Essex, calling for an investigation into the automaker's recalls, Toyota Canada said late last week that it would be happy to participate in a hearing with the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.

"As part of our continued efforts to communicate openly and broadly with all stakeholders — customers, Transport Canada and media — appearing before the committee is a natural next step in Toyota's candid outreach regarding our recalls," Toyota Canada officials noted.

The automaker claimed it was planning to ask for a hearing once parliament recommenced and committees began, but noted that Watson's request "eliminates that need."

Parliament was slated to reconvene this past week.

"Toyota looks forward to the opportunity to participate in the formal hearings to ensure issues are on the record for all Canadians to understand," they added.
