BINGHAM FARMS, Mich. — The sixth annual Vincentric Best Value in America awards were unveiled late last week, and leading the way were Ford and Honda, each of which took home six segment awards.

Vincentric announced 35 vehicle category award winners Friday, and plans to reveal the four Advanced Fuel Technology awards (for compact, midsize, crossover, and crossover large premium categories) sometime later in May.

Among the segment winners honored so far, BMW, General Motors and Toyota each earned four awards.

Looking at leaders, Ford and Honda in particular, Ford was represented by winners in two full-size truck categories, the E150 van models (Full-size Passenger Van), the Mustang (Sports Car), the Lincoln MKS (Large, Premium Passenger Car) and Lincoln MKT (Crossover, Large Premium).

Honda, meanwhile, took top billing in the following categories: Subcompact (Honda Fit); Compact, Hatchback (Honda Element); Compact, Sedan (Honda Civic); Midsize, Sedan (Honda Accord); Crossover, Compact, Mid Level (Honda CR-V); and Minivan (Honda Odyssey).

"Vincentric's 2010 Best Value in America awards clearly demonstrate how improvement in factors that positively impact consumer value translates into sales success," suggested David Wurster, president of Vincentric.

"We've seen this in the past with Honda and Toyota," he added. "The new story for 2010 is how Ford, Hyundai and Kia have been able to apply this formula. All three of these brands are growing sales while providing class leading value."

The cost-of-ownership is determined by the following eight factors: depreciation, fuel, insurance, opportunity cost, financing, maintenance, taxes and state fees, and repairs.

Vincentric then applied a statistical model to determine the Best Value in America winners by figuring out which  models had lower-than-expected ownership costs based on their market segment and price.

Vincentric evaluated each model in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. It applied a range of annual mileage intervals and insurance profiles.
