Ban of Cell Phones While Driving: No Emails, No Texts, No Calls

By: Felicia Mahabeer

Are you helping to promote safe driving in your dealership? The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has declared a nationwide ban on cell phones while driving, due to the degree of danger caused by operating your cell phone while maneuvering a vehicle. Most of us have heard about the latest new technologies out there but how many of us actually use them and encourage customers to use them?

When it comes to using electronic devices, many of us think it’s just a quick call or text; what we don’t realize however, is that accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. Statistics show that more than 3,000 people lost their lives in 2010 because of distracted driving. The NTSB reported, “accidents caused by texting, while driving increased by 50 percent over last year.”

With the development of hands-free technology such as Bluetooth or voice commands, you– and your customers– don’t have to drive distracted. Bluetooth is the latest technology available in the majority of newer vehicles, which many of us probably already heard of. This means your phone will “sync” with your vehicles audio system and alert you of incoming calls. In addition, you will be able to hold the conversation by speaking out loud and hearing the response through your vehicle speakers. Bluetooth offers a variety of benefits over regular, wired hands-free headsets while operating your vehicle. It is fast and easy to manage, with only a push of a button.

Are you ready to take the step to help prevent your distracted driving? Are you ready to go hands-free with Bluetooth and help your customers do the same?
