EVgo describes itself as the nation's largest public EV fast charging network. It also says it is the first U.S. public fast charging network to be powered 100% by renewable energy.

Because of that, EVgo says it is a natural partner for mobility company Uber to tackle the climate crisis.

On Thursday, during Climate Week at an event at the Midway in San Francisco, EVgo and Uber announced what they say is a new agreement to accelerate the electrification of rideshare across the United States.

In addition to senior executives from Uber and EVgo, the event featured other partners working to advance clean transportation in rideshare.

The companies say the announcement “codifies” their shared commitment “to reduce pollution, increase economic access and mobility, and promote equity through transportation electrification.”

During the first phase of the MOU between Uber and EVgo, they will work to support Uber driver-partners who currently drive electric vehicles by providing them with education and access to EVgo’s public fast charging network. Uber and EVgo will also evaluate how to optimize charging behavior and determine where more fast charging is needed.

Uber and EVgo will also develop pilot programs to help Uber driver-partners switch to an EV. Other programs will work on developing new partnerships “to accelerate the electrified rideshare ecosystem,” the companies said. That includes integrations between the Uber and EVgo apps.

EVgo says it has more experience electrifying rideshare than any other charging company, and its previous work has included teaming up with GM's Maven Gig, WaiveCar, and Lyft.

EVgo says it serves more than 150,000 customers with more than 1,200 DC fast chargers across more than 750 locations in 66 metropolitan markets in 34 states.
