OMAHA, Neb. -

ShipCarsNow named a new president who will take on the role effective March 4.

Tapped for the position at Union Pacific Railroad’s subsidiary is Marty Coalson, who will succeed Roland Fortner who will be taking a new position within Union Pacific’s marketing and sales group.

Coalson has been with Union Pacific for 34 years, most recently serving as assistant vice president of damage prevention services where he worked closely with the railroad’s automotive customers and auto industry leaders on transportation quality.

The company highlighted Coalson’s background includes domestic and international transportation experience, and he has worked with Union Pacific’s Intermodal and Chemical business teams.

Coalson previously was responsible for sales forecasting and computer modeling of the rail-road’s network to assist with resource planning.

Executives mentioned Fortner, a 31-year Union Pacific veteran, was instrumental in forming and launching ShipCarsNow.

“Roland did an excellent job in developing ShipCarsNow and we are extremely confident Marty will build upon the attention to customer satisfaction, quality and service that has been the mission at ShipCarsNow,” said Eric Butler, Union Pacific executive vice president of marketing and sales. “He is the right person to find ways to continue leveraging the combined strengths of ShipCarsNow and Union Pacific to create an even stronger customer value proposition.”
