SANTA MONICA, Calif. -

Through a new partnership between TrueCar and grocery retailer Kroger, customers will receive price context, upfront guaranteed savings off the manufacturer’s suggested retail price on new vehicles, and in some states, discounts on used vehicles.

Called the Kroger Auto Buying Program, it will be open to Kroger customers who shop at stores within Kroger, Dillons, King Soopers, Fred Meyers, QFC – Quality Food Centers, Ralphs and Smith’s.

Those customers will have access to more than 16,500 TrueCar certified dealers.

Also, based on recent vehicle transactions, customers will be able to see what others in their area paid for the new car they want. They will also gain access to machine-learning powered price ratings on used vehicle listings.

TrueCar says that with that data and tools, Kroger customers will be able to assess price competitiveness on their next vehicle purchase.

Another benefit of the program, according to TrueCar: Customers purchasing a vehicle through the program will receive a free Fuel VIP membership. With that membership, shoppers will be able to earn one extra fuel point for nearly every dollar spent, which the company says doubles the amount of customer savings at the pump.

“We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Kroger,” TrueCar chief executive officer and president Mike Darrow said in a news release.

He continued, “As the largest grocery retailer in the country, it’s a wonderful opportunity for TrueCar to provide Kroger customers with an additional benefit that helps make their vehicle shopping experience more efficient and empowers them with price confidence.”

Additional benefits of the program, according to TrueCar: Members can save $3,400 off MSRP on average (savings may vary). They can also obtain real pricing on actual inventory on the dealer’s lot.

In addition, they also gain access to vehicle condition summaries and can choose from more than 1 million used vehicles for sale across the United States.
