Auto Remarketing is recognizing the 2022 Women in Retail honorees in the current issue of the magazine and at Used Car Week this fall in San Diego.

With these awards, we specifically recognize top leaders on the retail side of the auto industry, including honorees from dealerships, dealer groups and third-party providers/vendors

Over the next few weeks, AR will be posting Q&As with each of the honorees on this website.

Next up is Leslie Calicutt, who is marketing director of Vic Bailey Automotive.

Auto Remarketing: What do you enjoy most about working in retail automotive, and what would you change?

Leslie Calicutt: Retail automotive keeps me on my toes! Each day is different which means my job never gets boring!

The automotive world is constantly changing which makes it exciting. I get the added bonus of working with my family. I’ve heard a lot of people say they would never be able to work with their family, but luckily my family makes an amazing team. We challenge each other as well as encourage each other on a daily basis. I wish I had the power to change the inventory issue! Consumer interest is high, we just need more vehicles on the lot.

Our empty lots look so sad! However, we do have plenty of customers reserving vehicles in transit to the dealership as well as placing custom orders.

AR: What is the top trend you’re watching in retail automotive this year?

Calicutt: I am watching manufacturers turn their focus to electric vehicles. It will be interesting to watch the number of electric vehicle sales year to year and see if any of the other manufacturers jump ahead of Tesla. It’s a tricky time to move towards electric without having the models on the lot for consumers to test drive.

AR: What piece of career advice would you give your younger self?

Calicutt: Network! It is so important to talk to people. Other people will inspire you, help you, and connect you. You will be so much more successful if you work with other people. Find a mentor to learn from.

AR: What has been the top key to your success in retail automotive?

Calicutt: I keep showing up. Not all days are fun. Work is work. You have to be able to brush off some negativity here and there, and just keep going.
