RUEIL-MALMAISON, France -

Groupe PSA has officially launched its Free2Move Carsharing and mobility services in the U.S., with Washington, D.C. as its first market.

The group — which includes the Peugeot, Citroen, DS, Opel and Vauxhall  brands — began its “free-floating” car-sharing services in D.C. on Thursday with 600 vehicles throughout the eight wards of the district.

Free2Move provides a variety of mobility solutions in 12 countries and includes cars, scooters and bikes. Free2Move Carsharing is one of the brand services from Free2Move.

With Free2Move being an aggregator and an “urban mobility navigator,” DC users will be able to tap into several other services via Free2Move beyond Free2Move Carsharing, too.

Those include Bird, Capital Bikeshare, car2go, Jump, Lime, Skip and Uber.

“The launch of Free2Move Carsharing in Washington D.C. is our first step in the deployment of our 10 year plan for a North America entry, as part of our Push to Pass strategic plan,” Groupe PSA North America president and chief executive Larry Dominique said in a news release. “Our unique ‘service first’ launch strategy allows us to pragmatically re-enter this market thoughtfully and with a greater understanding of the retail marketplace and its consumers’ needs.”

Added Michael Stumpe, who is president and CEO of Groupe PSA NA Carsharing: “Washington D.C. was a natural choice for our launch based on population, traffic density and the wide range of mobility options. Once our service becomes established into D.C.’s mobility community, we’ll leverage this experience to grow into new markets.”
