LOS ANGELES -

Eco-friendly electric vehicle designer and manufacturer Fisker said on Wednesday that it will design its new global headquarters, to be located in Los Angeles County, to “maximize collaboration space” — but “not based on numbers of desks.”

That will give employees the flexibility to work remotely and in the office, Fisker said.

The company also announced a name for the new headquarters: “Inception.”

Fisker was founded in Southern California in 2016 said the two-campus West Coast operation reinforces its California roots.

The new 73,000-square-foot global headquarters will be located in the California city of Manhattan Beach and includes design and engineering facilities for the Fisker Ocean SUV and future portfolio expansion.

The company’s chairman and chief executive officer Henrik Fisker said the company already knew that Southern California would be its future home.

“With 100 more employees planned to join the company by the end of the year alone, our challenge was to find the right facility to support our growth,” Fisker said in a news release.

He continued, “Our new headquarters in Manhattan Beach will enable us to take a vehicle from a sketch to launch in an environment that is consistent with our asset-lite, digital-first philosophy.”

In September, the company announced the opening of an engineering and research center in San Francisco. Fisker created its “Source Code” office in line with the same concept as the Los Angeles headquarters office. The company said the Source Code office, located in the Mission District of San Francisco, is the focal point and development center for the company’s software and vehicle electronics, both in-car and Fisker data center technology.

Fisker plans a portfolio expansion to a four-vehicle range by 2025. In addition to the Ocean SUV, the lineup will include a super-sports sedan based on the EMotion concept.

An extreme sports crossover will also be part of the lineup, along with what the company describes as a new “segment changing” lifestyle pickup truck.

The company expects each vehicle to be delivered using durability-tested platforms, battery packs and component systems from technology suppliers and automotive companies.

The company’s design and engineering teams are developing Fisker-specific IP and customer experience features. Those features, Fisker said, are “consistent with the Fisker brand.”

In creating its Fisker Flexible – Platform Adaptive Design, or FF-PAD, development process, Fisker says it is positioned to be “platform agnostic.”

The company plans to make the final selection on the platform for the Ocean soon, consistent with the projected start of production in the fourth quarter of 2022.
