ATLANTA -

RMS Automotive has launched the first piece of a three-phase project to build a remarketing system for BMW China and the 400-plus dealers included in its certified pre-owned program.

The initial remarketing solution included in Phase I of the project includes an online auction platform, localized for China, that will let BMW China dealers bid on cars online, view comprehensive vehicle information, tap into proxy bidding, if needed, and more.

Meanwhile, it is designed to give BMW China transparency into company car status and easier portfolio management. The platform also allows the company to maintain BMW reconditioning procedures plus utilize consultation from RMS parent Cox Automotive and Beijing-based support staff.

The project includes operational support from Jingzhengu for pricing and inspections as well as AutoStreets, which will provide the physical open-market auctions and logistics. Both of those companies are Cox Automotive brands based in China.

“We were able to capitalize on our industry expertise and our experience serving BMW from a global perspective,” said Zach Hallowell, vice president of Manheim Digital Marketplace and RMS Automotive, in a news release. “Applying what we know from partnering with BMW in the U.K. and the U.S. enabled us to create a class-leading solution for BMW China.”

RMS said Phases II and III of the project will include multi-channel, auto-pricing and enhanced vehicle settlement capabilities.

More specifically, the second phase will include an integration of online no-sales into physical auctions and include automated pricing — moves that were expected to occur this month. The BMW China off-lease portfolio will also be added into the system as part of this phase.

RMS plans to launch Phase III in October. This will include post-sales payments and facilitation, the company said.

“We appreciate the strategic partnership relationship between Cox Automotive and BMW China,” said Choi Ne-Hyun, head of business steering and used-car development for BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. “With the successful pilot in March 2018, the remarketing system helps to improve both transparency and efficiency. We look forward to further cooperation with Cox in the future.”
