ATLANTA -

Vehicle subscription technology provider Clutch has added three new dealership groups to its roster.

Fields Auto Group, Park Place Dealerships and Prime Motor Group are now utilizing the subscription platform of Clutch, whose subscription services are available through dealerships in 26 states.

“The automotive industry is taking hold of subscription and showing how this can be a real game changer. Subscription is available to millions of consumers across a wide range of price points,” Clutch president Vince Zappa said in a news release.

“Clutch's platform is highly configurable, allowing dealers to deliver fractional, single car, and multi-vehicle subscription solutions,” he said.

Clutch, which launched in 2014, provides the technology that dealers and automakers need to offer subscriptions.

Speaking to the company’s technology, Zappa added: “We determined early on that dynamically managing and optimizing the delivery of a subscription service is a difficult problem that requires new thinking versus traditional, commonplace scheduling applications.

“Our platform learns what consumers like across a range of scenarios and dynamically allocates vehicles based on those preferences, all while meeting the business requirements of the dealer,” he said.

The Atlanta-based company has similar projects with other retailers — including the Flow, Germain and Bernie Moreno dealership groups, among others — and automaker programs like Porsche Passport, Mercedes-Benz Collection and Access by BMW.

The Clutch website lists a bevy of major markets where the company is set to launch with partners, including Baltimore, Boston, Chicago Detroit, Dallas, Indianapolis, Miami, St. Louis and Washington, D.C., among others.

Back in September, Auto Remarketing met with Zappa at Clutch headquarters, where he explained how the company provides the software that facilitates this alternative car ownership model, which allows drivers to “flip” into new cars based on their needs at the moment.

For instance, you need a sedan to drive to and from work during the week. But you need an SUV for that camping trip over the weekend.  That’s where companies like Clutch come into play.

“During the week, your demands on transportation change. And again at a macro level, it changes quite a bit,” Zappa said during that interview. “Why can’t the car adapt to that?”
