LAS VEGAS -

Throw out most any topic in an interview, and Sandy Schwartz is likely to have a thoughtful, educated response.

But if you really want the Cox Automotive president to talk with some passion, ask him a question on politics and economics.

Like, for instance, the impact that automotive vendors might see from a tariff on imported aluminum and steel.

His answer, as it was during our conversation ahead of the NADA Show 2018 in Las Vegas, isn’t likely to be of any particular partisan slant, but rather of genuine interest in the topic itself — which is evident in the tone of his voice.

“So now you really want to get me wound up,” Schwartz said when asked how the tariffs might impact auto vendors. “I’m not a politician, I’m not an economist, but man I love this subject.”
