CHICAGO -

This year’s Cars.com ranking of the “most-American” vehicles is once again led by Jeep.

While the Jeep Wrangler took home last year’s top spot on the American-Made Index, this year sits the Belvidere, Ill.-manufactured Jeep Cherokee, which has advanced up from the second spot it held last year.

Interestingly this year, the fifth-ranked Chevrolet Volt, that follows the No. 4 spot Chicago-built Ford Taurus, is the first plug-in model to make the list, as well as the highest-ranked newcomer, according to Cars.com.

Meanwhile, four of the top 10 American-Made Index vehicles are produced by a foreign-based automaker, including the two models ranked second and third on this year’s list.

Japan-based Honda’s Odyssey and Ridgeline models hold the second and third spot, respectively.

According to Cars.com, both the minivan and the pickup truck from the Honda brand are built with high domestic content and U.S.-sourced drivetrains in the state of Alabama.

Cars.com’s index calculates which U.S.-manufactured vehicles have the most American parts, as well as support the most factory jobs in the country, according to the company.

“In this new era of import tariffs and ongoing renegotiations of long-standing trading pacts, it's increasingly important for consumers to understand a product's homegrown credentials, especially when it comes to purchasing a modern automobile,” Cars.com's executive editor Joe Wiesenfelder said in a news release. “If consumers care about making car purchases that support the U.S. economy, it means looking beyond the assembly location.”
