BOSTON -

Among the familiar benefits this segment can provide, longest-lasting might just be the most attractive feature that dealers can tout when talking about sport utility vehicles.

Car search engine iSeeCars.com’s latest study identifies the 10 vehicles most likely to last 200,000 miles or more.

Across all vehicle segments, seven of the 10 longest-lasting vehicles identified are SUVs from Toyota, General Motors and Ford.

The Toyota Sequoia holds the top spot on the list.

The study found 6.6 percent of Sequoias are over 200,000 miles. The average for all models is just 1.2 percent.

Additionally, each SUV on the list is full-size, with the exception of the No. 4 ranked midsize Toyota 4Runner.

“These large SUVs feature body-on-frame construction, which means they are built like trucks and thus have truck-like durability,” iSeeCars chief executive officer Phong Ly explained in a news release. “These vehicles can also be easier to repair than smaller SUVs, which can contribute to their longevity.”

With its list of top the longest lasting vehicles, iSeeCars delve even deeper to see which of the 10 models identified are most likely to reach 300,000 miles. The site found that Toyota out ranks all other brands once again.

Among five of the 10 longest-lasting vehicles, the study found that Toyota 4Runners are twice as likely than average to last up to 300,000 miles.

Interestingly, there is a four-way tie for the second most likely vehicle to reach 300,000 miles.

The Chevrolet Suburban, Toyota Sequoia, Ford Expedition and Toyota Tacoma each average 0.2 percent of vehicles over the 300,000-mile mark, compared to 0.3 percent of Toyota 4Runners.

“The top-ranked Toyota Tacoma is more than twice as likely than the average vehicle to reach 200,000 miles, which justifies its long history of strong reliability ratings,” added Ly.

iSeeCars said more than 13.5 million cars were analyzed for the study.
