CHICAGO and RICHMOND, Va. -

CarLotz has set up shop in Chicagoland.

The used-vehicle consignment and remarketing business announced its seventh store on Wednesday, opening a location — its largest to date — in the Chicago suburb of Downer’s Grove, Ill.

This is also the first location in the Midwest for CarLotz, which launched in 2011 in Virginia and has since spread to North Carolina and Florida.

The facility is approximately 30,000-square-feet and includes space for more than 500 vehicles.

It opened Monday and will have a formal grand opening ceremony once retail center upgrades are finished this summer.

“We couldn’t be more excited about bringing the unique CarLotz experience to the Chicago metropolitan area as we expand our national footprint,” CarLotz chief executive Michael Bor said in a news release.

“As we looked all over the country to further expand our business, Chicago emerged as the perfect community to grow our consumer consignment and fleet vehicle remarketing model.”

The new facility will also include reconditioning amenities, and the plan is to hire 20 full-time associates in sales, administration and recon posts.
