Scott Painter’s makeover of TrueCar now includes two new additions in leadership roles.
The digital auto retail platform announced it has hired former INFINITI executive Nikole Wells as senior vice president of dealer sales and Steve Moretti, who worked with Painter during his original tenure with TrueCar, as senior director of data acquisition and strategic partnerships.
In a news release, the company said Wells and Moretti “strengthen TrueCar’s ability to deliver higher-quality transactions for dealers by pairing field sales execution with expanded data capabilities.”
Wells will oversee TrueCar’s dealer sales organization, including franchise and independent sales, national accounts and strategic accounts, while Moretti heads data acquisition strategy, building and expanding relationships with data providers and aggregators with a goal of establishing TrueCar as “the premiere data authority” in auto retail.
“TrueCar is building a platform centered on one idea: better data drives better transactions,” Painter said. “Nikole brings the leadership and operational discipline to translate that into performance in the field, while Steve brings deep expertise in sourcing and structuring the data that powers it.
“Together, they strengthen our ability to help dealers move cars more efficiently, with greater precision and confidence.”

Painter founded TrueCar in 2005 and resigned as CEO in 2015 in the wake of financial losses before reacquiring the company early this year. Since then, he has made major changes, including eliminating initiatives not aligning with the “core business”, downsizing the workforce and updating the dealer program standards.
As part of its broader “transformation strategy”, TrueCar said, Wells is tasked with building and scaling its field sales organization, focused on delivering better transactions for dealer partners through price clarity, improved conversion and stronger alignment throughout the marketplace.
She comes on board with more than 25 years of auto industry experience, most recently as INFINITI’s west regional vice president, overseeing sales, marketing, dealer performance and customer experience across.
She previously spent 17 years in various roles with Nissan North America, leading national sales programs, developing new sales channels and helping launch and scale electric vehicle sales initiatives, as well as serving in management positions with Ford Motor Company.
Moretti’s new role marks a return to TrueCar, having served as a strategic consultant in the company’s early days, working closely with Painter and the others founders and executive leaders to shape its launch strategy and lead initiatives for growth, partnerships, data acquisition and product development.
His resume includes almost three decades of experience in data strategy, partnerships and automotive marketplace development, playing roles in building and scaling data-driven businesses, including his role as Kelley Blue Book’s vice president of business development and partnerships.
