DETROIT –

General Motors revealed this week it has chosen a new leader of global information technology.

Tapped for the position is Randy Mott, who the company noted is a a veteran of several corporate chief information officer positions.

His appointment to lead GM’s global information technology is effective immediately.

Commenting on the hire, GM chairman and chief executive officer Dan Akerson, noted, “With more than three decades of information technology experience, Randy has demonstrated his ability to transform global IT operations.

“His visionary leadership and focus on execution will strengthen GM’s decision-making, reduce risk and improve our global infrastructure, data management and application development,” he added.

Mott will report to Akerson and serve on the company’s executive operations committee. 

He succeeds Terry Kline, who decided to leave GM to pursue other opportunities.

Highlighting Mott’s career history, he was formerly executive vice president and chief information officer of Hewlett Packard, where is was responsible for the company’s global information technology strategy and all of its IT assets.

Furthermore, he also helo CIO roles at Dell and Wal-Mart, officials noted.
