There’s a new president at Carfax.
Chief operating officer Scott Fredericks has taken on that role, a move that was effective Wednesday, parent company S&P Global announced.
Fredericks succeeds Bill Eager the former CEO of Carfax, who became president of S&P Global Mobility on Aug. 15. Eager will become CEO designate of Mobility when Mobility is spun off into a standalone public company.
S&P Global announced in April it plans to spin off its mobility business unit — which includes brands like CARFAX, automotiveMastermind, Polk Automotive Solutions and Market Scan — into a standalone publicly traded company, a move that was expected to be completed within 12-18 months.
Fredericks has been COO at Carfax since June 2022, having joined the company as vice president of marketing in 1997.
S&P Global also announced Wednesday that Joe Lafeir, who currently is president of the Automotive Insights business within Mobility, has been named president of Mobility Business Solutions.

That role will include leading Mobility’s new B2B business segment, which includes Automotive Insights and automotiveMastermind.
Lafeir has been with Automotive Insights for nine years. His prior roles include time with R.L. Polk, where he was chief information officer.
Fredericks and Lafeir will report to Eager, who will be CEO designate of Mobility when it is officially spun off.
