CARMEL, Ind. — ADESA Memphis and General Motors are lending their support to help soldiers in need by raising funds for a group that mails care packages to U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

They raised money during a recent GM closed factory sale at the auction, and this was donated to Project Package, a South Haven, Miss.-based organization that sends these troops packages typically filled with such items as toothbrushes, toothpaste, beef jerky, Gatorade, batteries and sunscreen.

"It's wonderful to be able to partner with GM to support our hometown soldiers," stated ADESA Memphis general manager Dan Dietsch. "We have the names of more than 600 soldiers from our surrounding areas of Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky whose families can't afford to ship them items they need."

During the promotion, a vehicle sold represented one care package to be shipped. Every one of the vehicles had a specific soldier's name connected to it.

The aim of this was to let buyers know exactly whom their purchased helped.

Additionally, there will be a courtesy note with the name of the dealer buying the specific vehicle in the corresponding care packages.

"This is a great cause that means so much to so many people — GM is honored to be part of it," stated Tim Brantley, account representative for General Motors.

In the full spirit of patriotism, the National Anthem kicked off the sale, and a local U.S. color guard unit attended the event.
