Kelley Blue Book announced Wednesday both brand and category winners of its 5-Year Cost to Own Awards, which recognize Hyundai as the top brand to offer new vehicles with the lowest projected ownership costs.
This is the second year that Hyundai has received KBB’s 5-Year Cost to Own brand award.
KBB said that the Hyundai brand’s key advantages include a superior warranty program and low repair costs across its models.
The Hyundai Sonata placed top in the mid-size car category, and both the Hyundai Elantra and Accent placed second among cars in the compact car and subcompact car categories, respectively.
“Kelley Blue Book exists to help consumers make the best possible decision during the car shopping journey and throughout vehicle ownership,” KBB general manager Mike Sadowski said in a news release. “Our 5-Year Cost to Own information breaks down typical ownership costs, so shoppers can evaluate the out-of-pocket expenses they will incur beyond the initial purchase price. Having this information at their fingertips, consumers could save money down the road by choosing a vehicle that best fits their needs and their long-term budget.”
Projected ownership costs are based on KBB data for the initial five-year ownership period. KBB said that it examines vehicles’ depreciation, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance fees, maintenance and repair costs and state fees.
For the third consecutive year, Acura has been named the top 5-Year Cost to Own luxury brand this year.
In addition to an affordable price, Acura provides drivers with luxury models without expensive maintenance, said KBB.
