NAAA Set for National Auto Auction Week
FREDERICK, Md. — Leaders of the National Auto Auction Association shared their enthusiasm for this year's National Auto Auction Week, which begins today.
NAAA officials indicated they plan to celebrate the industry's seven decades of entrepreneurship, vital economic impact and community service by hosting several special events and activities.
"NAAA auctions will take this special week to thank dealers, recognize staff and renew support in their communities," explained NAAA executive director Frank Hackett.
"Auction partners and employees help make our auctions a success, which we believe is important to share with our friends and neighbors," Hackett added.
NAAA emphasized that it established this week to increase public awareness of the auto auction industry and its contributions.
The organization was founded 62 years ago this month. Today, the association reports that its 312 North American members sold more than 8.92 million vehicles worth $80.5 billion in 2009. In addition, the average auto auction now employs 146 people and operates a facility of about 78 acres.
"These figures show the strength and depth of a mature industry," NAAA president Dave Angelicchio declared.
"Auto Auctions have a tradition of generously giving back to their communities, sponsoring everything from children's sports to college scholarships," Angelicchio continued. "Last year NAAA members raised more than 1.62 million for a variety of charities."
