11 Best-Ever CPO Records Set in August

In what turned out to be the best certified pre-owned month ever – and the first time the market broke 200,000 sales — 11 CPO programs were found to have posted record sales last month, according to Autodata Corp.
Reaching all-time highs were Audi, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru and Toyota, the company said.
Starting with Audi, it sold 3,651 CPO units in August, up from 3,366 sales a year ago. Through eight months, its CPO sales have totaled 26,088, versus 24,841 certified sales in the same time period of 2012.
Honda sold 25,139 CPO vehicles in August (up 18.5 percent) and year-to-date sales are at 171,399 units (up 3.9 percent).
The Acura division moved 4,098 certified vehicles in the month (up 8.3 percent) and yearly sales are down 3.7 percent at 28,435.
Hyundai eclipsed 7,000 certified sales for the first time ever, moving 7,306 units (up 14.8 percent) in its best-ever month. Year-to-date, it has moved 51,463 CPO vehicles for a 13.3-percent uptick.
Kia’s certified sales reached 3,532 units (up 93.6 percent), with yearly sales at 22,195 vehicles (up 81.7 percent).
At Mazda, its best-ever month included 3,667 certified sales, compared to 2,615 a year ago. Year-to-date, it has moved 24,870 units, up from 16,462 through August 2012.
Mercedes-Benz had 9,252 certified sales in August (up 34 percent) and its year-to-date sum is at 66,183 units (up 25.3 percent).
There were 738 Mini units sold (up 111.5 percent) for the month. Through August, there have been 4,427 CPO sales (up 111.1 percent).
Nissan hit 11,081 CPO sales in August (up 16.5 percent) and its sales through eight months have climbed 10.1 percent to come in at 77,880.
The Infiniti division’s 1,119 CPO sales were up 38.5 percent in August; its year-to-date sum is at 7,672 units (down 7.4 percent).
Porsche moved 943 certified units for the month (up 8.5 percent) and its eight-month sum hit 6,525 units (up 0.4 percent).
Subaru was up 55.7 percent with 3,625 certified sales in August. Its 23,791 year-to-date sales represented a 47.7-percent gain.
Toyota reported 36,425 certified sales for August (up 26.6 percent) and a year-to-date sum of 254,047 units sold (up 15.5 percent).
The Lexus brand notched 6,452 CPO units sold (up 17.5 percent). In eight months, its 48,904 CPO sales are a 7-percent improvement.
Ford’s brands combined to move 21,370 CPO vehicles in August (up 39.8 percent year-over-year), putting the year-to-date sum at 152,536 units (up 35.8 percent).
The Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac and Saturn brands at General Motors combined to sell 30,694 CPO vehicles for a 31.7-percent hike. This same group sold 232,178 certified cars in eight months of 2013 (up 23.2 percent).
The Cadillac brand hit 1,591 CPO sales in August (up 23.9 percent) and 12,606 sales year-to-date (up 12.7 percent).
Chrysler Group’s Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler brands posted 11,366 CPO sales in August, up from 9,931 a year ago. Through eight months, they have combined to sell 82,213 CPO units for a 6.3-percent hike.
The Fiat brand (not included in the above totals) sold 29 certified cars in August (up 123.1 percent) and has pulled in year-to-date sales of 192 (up 186.6 percent).
At Volkswagen, its 8,711 CPO sales in August was a 15.27-percent year-over-year gain. This represented the strongest August on record for VW and its third-best month of all time.
Through eight months, VW CPO sales have hit 66,571 units for a 15.32-percent hike.
BMW posted 7,735 certified sales in August (up 18.2 percent) and its eight-month sum hit 54,692 units (up 9.9 percent).
Volvo’s 819 certified sales in August were down 24.9 percent year-over-year. Through August, sales are off 10.2 percent at 7,173 units sold this year.
Jaguar’s certified sales totaled 317 for the month (up 10.5 percent), while Land Rover’s were down 7.3 percent at 537.
Mitsubishi sold 64 CPO units in August (up 8.5 percent) and Bentley was estimated to have sold 30.
There were nine smart brand CPO sales during the month and 29 Maserati CPO sales (down 9.4 percent).
