2 Brands Reach Best-Ever CPO Sales Totals

Nearly every single one of the roughly three dozen brands included in Autodata Corp.’s listing of certified pre-owned sales figures showed a year-over-year increase in their respective CPO numbers, including two that had their best-ever months.
Both Kia (3,197 CPO sales, up 82.8-percent year-over-year) and Subaru, (3,275 certified sales, up 63.8 percent) achieved their strongest CPO sales months of all time.
Kia has sold 18,663 certified vehicles this year for a 79.6-percent increase. Subaru has reached 20,082 CPO sales (up 45.8 percent).
Another record-breaker was Toyota, which had its best daily sales rate ever.
“Toyota’s TCUV sales momentum continued strong in July with our strongest DSR of all time at 1,306.8 for total sales of 32,671,” said Rob Larson, the retail sales and operations manager for TCUV/TRAC.
“Our July sales were up 19.6 percent compared to last year, and year-to-date gain over last year is 113.8 percent . July was our seventh consecutive best ever month of the year, and our dealers are doing an outstanding job in promoting TCUV to their customers,” he added.
Elsewhere, Hyundai posted 6,734 CPO sales, which was its best-ever July and the second-strongest month on record for certified.
The July sum also represented a 14-percent year-over-year increase. Through seven months of 2013, Hyundai has sold 44,157 CPO rides for a 13-percent hike.
Volkswagen also reported its strongest July ever, with 8,114 sales, a 21.9-percent improvement. Year-to-date figures have hit 57,860 CPO sales (up 15.3 percent year-over-year).
Mazda sold 3,260 certified pre-owned vehicles in July, up from 2,345 a year ago. In seven months, it has posted 21,203 CPO sales, compared to 13,847 in the same period of 2012.
At Ford, its brands combined to sell 19,942 certified vehicles in July (up 34.2 percent), pushing the year-to-date sum to 131,166 units (up 35.1 percent).
There were 18,135 Ford/Mercury CPO sales in July (118,718 year-to-date) and 1,807 Lincoln CPO sales (12,448 year-to-date).
General Motors’ CPO sales of Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac and Saturn models were at 29,917 in July (up 35.7 percent), and year-to-date sales for these brands have hit 201,484 units (up 22 percent).
There were 1,434 Cadillac CPO sales in July (up 21 percent) and 11,015 in the first seven months of the year (up 11.2 percent).
Chrysler’s brands combined to sell 10,147 certified vehicles in July (up 15.7 percent) and have reached a year-to-date sum of 70,847 units (up 5.1 percent).
The Dodge division pulled in 4,588 CPO sales (up 9.6 percent) last month, with Jeep at 3,488 sales (up 18.8 percent) and the Chrysler brand hitting 2,071 sales (up 25.8 percent).
The aforementioned Chrysler Group results do not include numbers for Fiat, which sold 34 CPO vehicles in July and 163 this year.
Audi pulled in 3,252 certified sales, up from 3,136 in July 2012. Year-to-date, the brand has recorded 22,437 CPO sales, against 21,475 certified sales in the year-ago period.
In its Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned program, Mercedes-Benz reported 7,976 sales last month, which was up 22 percent year-over-year. Through July, there have been 56,980 CPO sales for a 24-percent gain.
Next up, Honda hit 22,744 CPO sales in July (up 7.7 percent) and 146,260 (up 1.8 percent) through seven months, while Acura moved 3,680 certified units in July (down 8.2 percent) and 24,337 year-to-date (down 5.5 percent).
Nissan sold 9,516 certified units in July (up 9.3 percent) with yearly sales at 66,799 (up 9.1 percent). Infiniti’s July CPO sales were at 952 units (up 12.1 percent) and its year-to-date sales came in 6,552 (down 12.4 percent.
Lexus sold 5,981 CPO vehicles last month (up 13.2 percent) and its year-to-date figure stands at 42,440 (up 5.5 percent).
BMW’s certified sales were reported at 6,679 units for July (up 18.1 percent) and the year-to-date sum at 46,957 (up 8.7 percent).
Volvo sold 822 certified vehicles in July (down 14.6 percent) and its seven-month sum was 6,354 units (down 7.8 percent).
Porsche reached 810 CPO sales last month (up 4.4 percent) and its year-to-date total is 5,580 (down 0.9 percent).
In July, there were 589 Mini CPO sales (up 100.3 percent), 552 Land Rover certified sales (up 1.5 percent) and 318 Jaguar certified sales (up 12 percent).
Mitsubishi’s 85 certified sales in July were up from 53 in July 2012. Maserati notched 40, up from 29 a year ago.
Bentley was estimated to have sold 30 certified vehicles.
