3.4-Point Increase for Big 3 CPO Market Share

Led by a year-over-year sales increase of nearly 27 percent from Ford, the Big 3 grabbed about three-and-a-half additional points of certified pre-owned market share in January as all the automakers posted nice lifts in CPO sales, according to the latest report from Autodata Corp.
All told, certified sales for the Detroit automakers totaled 59,648 units in January, which beat year-ago figures by 21.9 percent. The Big 3 took 35.9 percent of the market for month, compared to its CPO market share of 32.5 percent in January 2013.
Ford’s brands combined to move 18,876 CPO units for a 26.9-percent lift. Most of that increase was in Ford/Mercury CPO, which was up 28.1 percent with 17,185 sales.
Lincoln moved 1,691 certified units for a 15.4-percent upswing.
At General Motors, the Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac and Saturn CPO sales totaled 28,508 (up 20.3 percent) and the Cadillac certified program sold 1,537 cars for an 8.8-percent uptick.
Chrysler Group had 10,726 certified sales (up 20.1 percent), with Dodge selling 4,975 CPO units (up 19.6 percent),
Chrysler moving 1,982 vehicles (up 5.3 percent) and Jeep CPO sales climbing 30.4 percent at 3,769 units.
Fiat, whose results are not included in the aforementioned Chrysler Group total, sold 34 certified vehicles last month, compared to six in January 2013.
