Asian & European Brands Both Notch CPO Gains in 14-Percent Neighborhood

Though their respective market shares were down from a year ago, it was another banner month for import brands in the certified pre-owned market.
CPO sales for European brands climbed 14 percent year-over-year in October, according to Autodata Corp., whose data indicates that Asian brands saw about the same level of increase (up 13.8 percent).
Specifically, there were 86,523 certified sales of Asian-brand vehicles last month and 28,719 European-brand CPO sales.
Year-to-date, Asian brands have moved 875,652 certified units (up 11.3 percent), and European brands have sold 293,010 CPO cars (up 12.3 percent).
Looking at individual brands, less than a handful of the roughly two dozen import badges included in Autodata’s set of confirmed results saw their sales dip last month.
The rest increased their sales, most by double-digit percentages.
As for market share, it was at 48.7 percent in October for Asian brands, down from 51.6 percent in October 2012. Europeans commanded a 16.2-percent share, versus 17.1 percent in October 2012.
