Cars.com Names ‘Best Hybrids For The Money’

With Earth Day just less than a week away, Cars.com released a list of what editors contend are the "best hybrids for the money." As gas prices continue to fluctuate, fuel-efficiency remains a selling point for dealers.
In an effort to help shoppers get the most bang for their buck, Cars.com experts looked at each cars average fuel economy and base sticker price.
"Gas prices remain volatile, so as shoppers consider more fuel-efficient options, they should know how effectively hybrids deliver gas mileage for their dollar — if they do at all," said Joe Wiesenfelder, Cars.com's executive editor.
"Simply because a hybrid gets great gas mileage doesn't necessarily mean you save money in the long run, because that same hybrid often comes with a higher price tag. To determine if the added expense is worth the cash, we analyzed overall cost compared to the car's efficiency."
With the 2013 Toyota Priuse c notching the spot for best subcompact car for the money in the hybrid category, and the 2013 Lexus ES 300h being named the best compact luxury sedan, the list runs the gamut from highline to more affordable options.
"Hybrids come in all shapes and sizes these days," said Wiesenfelder. "Many people think that a hybrid won't accommodate their lifestyle because they assume all hybrids are small like the Prius or Insight, but our list helps shoppers looking for a cost effective, efficient car in just about every size and category that can meet the needs of any car shoppers."
