ATLANTA -

Perhaps a result of the decrease in gas prices earlier this summer, accompanied by increased consumer interest in trucks and larger units, shoppers in the market for late-model used or certified pre-owned pickup trucks may have to shop around a bit more than usual.

According to July’s installment of vehicle scarcity data that is provided monthly to Auto Remarketing from AutoTrader.com —  including the 10 Most Scarce CPO Vehicles and 10 Most Scarce Late-Model Used Vehicles on a national scale and for each of the top 10 Designated Market Areas — a notable number of CPO and late-model trucks (particularly the bigger trucks in the 2500/3500 and 250/350 models) showed up on the most-scarce lists in several DMAs.

For example, the late-model and CPO Dodge Ram 2500 both appear to be scarce in many of the major cities of the U.S.

The CPO Ram 2500 came in at No. 8 in Houston and No. 6 in Dallas/Ft. Worth, while the late-model Ram 2500 came in No. 6 in the San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose DMA, AutoTrader.com officials shared.

And for the popular F-Series from the Blue Oval, the CPO Ford F-250  was the No. 2 scarcest unit in Philadelphia and No. 6 in Washington D.C.; the CPO Ford F-350 was No. 2 in Los Angeles.

For the late-model version, the Ford F-250 came in as the No. 10 scarcest unit in the San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose DMA.

Furthermore, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, both the 2500 and 3500 versions, were also some of the hardest-to-find units in the major DMAs this past month, both for CPO and late-model.

Summer Sport Models Scarce this Season

As July wrapped up, consumers in the market for a small sport convertible — a popular segment in the summer season — may have run into trouble, as AutoTrader.com officials shared that these units were particularly scarce in July.

“The BMW M-Series was dethroned for National Scarcity in July by the Honda S2000 for both CPO and Late-Model Used,” officials noted. “However, the BMW M-Series remained popular with site visitors, ranking near the top of the CPO and Late-Model Used National Scarcity lists again for July ( No. 2 CPO and No. 3 Late-Model Used)."

Furthermore, the Saturn Sky also broke into the top 10 on the National CPO Scarcity list, at No. 7.

And for one luxury brand, in particular, units remained “relatively” scarce this past month, officials shared.

“The Audi TTS and S4 make  the top 10 in National Scarcity index for both CPO and Late-Model Used,” AutoTrader.com shared.

“CPO Audis are particularly scarce in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, taking four out of the top five spots,” officials continued.

Lastly, one Japanese nameplate saw its Subaru Impreza WRX scarce in certain markets, as well.

“The Impreza WRX has relatively high scarcity in Boston, Philadelphia, New York and San Francisco in both CPO and Late-Model Used,” the site concluded.

AutoTrader.com officials explained the scarcity rankings reflect the inventory listings on AutoTrader.com,  compared to the amount of search activity for each model.
