How passionate are Los Angeles Dodgers fans?
Consider this head-scratcher.
The price of regular unleaded gas in the LA metro area is $6.3361 per gallon as of Friday, according to AAA.
And according to … well, anyone even remotely following baseball, the Dodgers are currently the most successful MLB franchise, having won two straight World Series and three of the last six titles.
Yet when asked earlier this season whether they’d rather see gas prices dip to $1/gallon or the Dodgers win a third straight World Series, 80% of Dodgers fans say they would prefer another ring, according to Edmunds.
“For any Angeleno driver, gas is one of the greatest pain points. The fact that Dodger fans were willing to trade in the affordability challenge for gas for another win at the championship just kind of shows how far that fandom goes,” Alison Anziska, senior vice president of marketing at Edmunds, told Auto Remarketing on Thursday.

“And that’s something we’re really excited to play into and emphasize.”
Santa Monica, Calif.-based Edmunds has been leaning into the fan passion for the hometown team and their star second baseman Tommy “Tanks” Edman through a fun name-game campaign that dates back to April 2025.
The latest in that campaign brings in fellow LA icon Longo Lexus to provide $25,000 in free gas cards to Dodgers fans.
Edmunds is teaming up with Edman for the “Tommy Tanks Gas Giveaway” today at Longo Lexus in El Monte to dole out 333 $75 gas gift cards from 76.
Fans must arrive in a vehicle, are encouraged to wear Dodger blue. There is a limit of one card per vehicle.
The promotion runs from 6-8 p.m. (PT) at the Longo Lexus store at 330 Peck Road in El Monte.
“Edmunds really specializes in helping dealers reach our consumers digitally. But this activation really opened up a new opportunity for us to show another dimension of the relationship,” Anziska said.
Los Angeles, she said, is the nation’s largest car market, with a massive in-market audience.
“And knowing that, we were able to connect the dots between Edmunds marketing investment and sponsorship with the Dodgers and their fan base, along with our local audience,” she said. “And connecting that to the dealer ecosystem in a really tangible way that benefits consumers was a great opportunity.
“Longo Lexus is a longtime partner of Edmunds and we were excited to bring this opportunity to life where consumers could both engage with one of our partners and see Edmunds featured in a way that was useful to them.”
Longo Lexus has worked with Edmunds since 2019, sharing insights and utilizing their various products.
When Edmunds approached the dealership with the “Tommy Tanks” idea, “we jumped at the opportunity,” said Jessica Moerbe, who is director of marketing at the Penske Motor Group, which owns Longo Lexus.
“I think all these brands are very strong,” Moerbe said in an interview. “You have Lexus, you’ve got the Dodgers, you’ve got Edmunds and then you’ve got Tommy Edman. I think when these brands collaborate, they create great experiences and can do really great things together.
“This is a great way for us to engage the community. We have a tremendous amount of support and we always believe in giving back and supporting those that support us,” she said.
While digital is an effective tool, sometimes an in-person experience allows the consumer to experience a brand more fully.
“So, getting people into the dealership and drawing them in really gives them a chance to understand what we’re all about and we’re all about the guests,” Moerbe said. “You know, our tagline is taking care of guests one at a time. We want to create long-term relationships and not just transactions.
“So, it was really important for us to kind of create something fun for our guests,” she said.
In addition to the gas card giveaway and a “Tommy Tanks” gas calculator, the event will include Dodger Dogs (speaking of LA legends), nachos and photo opportunities.
And while certainly relief at the gas pump that most any driver would appreciate, there’s also some common ground and unity that Dodger fandom brings to the LA area.
Edmunds’ work with the team has been, “an opportunity for us to use culturally relevant campaigns to really help connect the dots for consumers in their car shopping,” Anziska said.
“And they feel engaged and connected because of their fandom. L.A. baseball is huge,” she said, referring to the back-to-back World Series champs.
“We’re hoping for a three-peat here,” she said. “And then there’s the nice connectivity of us working with Tommy Edman, both from just kind of this fun similarity between his name and our brand name, but also just his aspect of being a super utility player who shows up and really kind of serves the team and is there to pinch to just take those actions in the most important moments is the way that Edmunds is in showing up for our consumers and with our partners at Longo as well, knowing that, you know, they really position their offering to support consumers in the market.
“We just felt like all of us have a similar authenticity of our brands,” Anziska said. “As you know, just L.A. is crazy about baseball and that fandom really comes to life and their fans really show up.”
And they’re likely to show up in droves to Longo Lexus for free gas.
Even if, surprisingly enough, Dodger fans apparently prioritize a World Series over serious savings.
“I was shocked,” Moerbe said, when asked her reaction to fans’ preference for a third ring over ridiculously low prices at the pump.
“Yeah, we were shocked as well,” Anziska said. “I mean, we asked it really to kind of have a fun metric to sharpen the affordability crisis that consumers are facing, and gas is just front and center of that, right?
“Folks know that in as recent as May of this year, highest levels, gas is over $6.24 a gallon” she said. “And yet, despite that prevalence, they were willing to turn that down, which really illustrates that despite the pain they’re feeling in their wallets, they care more about the Dodgers and that shared communal fandom that we have.
“So yes, we were surprised, but I’d say pleasantly surprised,” Anziska said. “Proud of it.”
