When looking at its consolidated international results, Group 1 Automotive drove its retail used-vehicle sales volume up by more than 16 percent, helping to push used retail revenue to nearly $535 million for the second quarter.

More specifically, consolidated used retail revenue was at $534.8 million, a 17.2-percent uptick from the same period of 2012.  These revenue was from used retails sales that improved 17.2 percent year-over-year (4.2 percent for same-store).

First-half consolidated used retail revenue eclipsed $1 billion, as it improved 15.5 percent over the first six months of 2012.

Group 1 operates in the U.S., the U.K. and Brazil. And within the retailer’s U.S. operations, it moved 21,928 used units in Q2 for a 5.6-percent hike.  In the first half of the year, Group 1 retailed 43,044 used cars for a 5.9-percent gain.

Looking at the overall results for the company, it turned out to be a record quarter for Group 1 in adjusted net income and adjusted diluted earnings per share.

Those totals were $39.7 million and $1.52, respectively.

“We are delighted to announce Group 1's second quarter operating results which reflect double-digit revenue increases across all of our business sectors coupled with strong expense leverage, which delivered record earnings for our shareholders,” said Earl Hesterberg, president and chief executive officer.“As these record results demonstrate, we are beginning to reap the benefits of the significant process improvements and growth investments we have made since the recession."
