Hendrick Aligns with Long-Time Friend to Manage Another NC Honda Store

Hendrick Automotive Group broadened its footprint in the Tar Heel State this week by adding another Honda dealership to its store portfolio.
Chairman Rick Hendrick has partnered with Bob Barbour to open Barbour-Hendrick Honda Greenville. The dealership, formerly Bob Barbour Honda, officially opened under the Barbour-Hendrick name this week in Greenville, N.C.
“Rick and I have been friends since 1972 when we were 22 and 23 years old working together,” said Barbour, who opened Bob Barbour Honda in 1978.
“This dealership and its employees have built a fine reputation in Greenville, and the Hendrick name is well thought of across the country,” Barbour continued. “For several years we’ve talked about this merger as I’ve looked to spend more time with my family. I’m proud that it’s now a reality and we are working together as partners.”
Last year, Bob Barbour Honda sold more than 1,600 vehicles and serviced more than 6,000 units.
Located at 3300 South Memorial Dr., Barbour-Hendrick Honda Greenville is the first in the market for Hendrick Automotive Group, which will manage the store. The company now operates 87 dealerships across the country and 37 in North Carolina.
“I’ve respected Bob and his work in the automotive industry since we first met more than 40 years ago,” Hendrick said.
“For years we’ve talked about working together again. When this opportunity presented itself, it was the perfect fit, both from a personal and professional standpoint,” Hendrick continued.
“It means a lot to partner with Bob, and we’re looking forward to being a part of the Greenville and East Carolina University communities,” Hendrick went on to say.
Guy Wade will continue his duties as general manager of Barbour-Hendrick Honda Greenville. Wade joined the automotive industry in 1986 working in sales and finance. He was hired at Bob Barbour Honda in 2002 and promoted to general manager in 2005.
Barbour-Hendrick Honda Greenville will offer more than 300 new and pre-owned vehicles on site, plus access to the entire Hendrickcars.com inventory of more than 6,000 pre-owned vehicles.
The 20,000-square-foot dealership will have 16 service bays on its more than 11-acre lot. Barbour-Hendrick Honda Greenville features a customer lounge with free Wi-Fi, children’s play area, loaner vehicles for service customers and shuttle service throughout the city of Greenville.
Barbour-Hendrick Honda Greenville currently employs 54 people. Information on future job opportunities at the dealership, as well as information on joining Hendrick Automotive Group’s Talent Network to receive notification of these opportunities, can be found at www.hendrickcareers.com.
