NEW YORK -

After wrapping up what was the strongest August ever for the CPO market, according to Autodata Corp., one dealership highlighted its recent success in the segment, as well as strategies and best practices implemented in the New York store.

Bronx dealership Teddy Nissan was named the No. 1 CPO Nissan dealer in the country for May 2012, which store officials noted was its very first month of certifying pre-owned Nissan vehicles.

The dealership has remained in the top three Nissan stores for CPO in the country for June and July, and is also the No. 1 Nissan dealership in the New York market, according to Nissan sales figures, officials further shared.

Explaining how the dealership has managed this impressive start in the Nissan CPO market, president Steve Risso, said "We became No. 1 by staying focused on our brand.

"We adopted a strategy to differentiate our cars from all of the other pre-owned Nissan vehicles down the street, especially from Nissan dealers that can't certify pre-owned Nissans,” he added.

Explaining just how Risso and owner Ted Bessen built up the three-year-old dealership's certified pre-owned business, officials noted they developed a strategy that includes always having the dealership's inventory and photos updated and available online and in the lot.

Furthermore, “they also use market research to buy the right vehicles and price them accordingly, which lets them offer certified pre-owned vehicles below or at market value,” the store shared.

Also, all of Teddy Nissan's vehicles available online and on the lot are guaranteed through Carfax and are marked with a Carfax history report.

"By passing rigorous inspections and safety procedures, we give our customers the peace of mind that they are driving the best quality pre-owned vehicle on the road," said Risso.

What’s the plan for the future?

The store plans to focus on its customers, as well as building loyalty.

"We're not just seeking new customers; we also want to retain the ones we already have," said Risso.

And this store apparently isn’t the only one experiencing CPO success.

Specifically, there were 160,206 CPO sales during August, which marked a 9.6-percent year-over-year increase and a 6.1-percent jump from July, said Autodata. The firm noted that Kia, Mazda, Mini and Subaru each had their best month of all time for CPO sales (August or otherwise).
