Now businesses of all sizes and individuals from more places can use product offerings from Privacy4Cars.

Along with securing two new patents, Privacy4Cars announced on Wednesday that its app has been significantly updated.

The app now features more than a dozen additional European languages and new single-use deployment capabilities to enable a broader range of business-to-business and business-to-consumer customers in the automotive sector.

Privacy4Cars said it previously catered specifically to high-volume automotive businesses that physically handle vehicles, including auctions, inspection companies, and dealerships, with a subscription model for its vehicle personal data deletion tool, AutoCleared, and remote access and account disconnection tool, DisconnectedCar.

Through its newest update, Privacy4Cars said its two most popular tools are now available to business customers across all budgets and business sizes as a single-use DeleteLink option. It’s a new deployment method designed as a service add-on for digital platforms, including vehicle history reports, marketplaces, and dealer management systems (DMS).

Privacy4Cars explained this deployment method also can help other companies, such as insurers, fleet managers, and rental operators, provide their customers with detailed, vehicle-specific instructions as opposed to generic reminders to delete personal data from vehicles after use.

The single-use DeleteLinks provide the technical, objective, auditable processes needed to “dramatically” improve deletion results and confirm the data has been removed, protecting both Privacy4Cars and its customers.

With the new DeleteLink deployment option, Privacy4Cars said businesses can send their customers a one-time-use link for their specific vehicle at a strategically opportune time, such as through an app notification, a text message, or an email.

Those users can click on the link, confirm they are in the vehicle, and delete by following Privacy4Cars’ step-by-step instructions that are specific for the systems installed in that vehicle.

Furthermore, companies can use DeleteLinks in several other ways.

Rental agencies can send drivers a Privacy4Cars DeleteLink when they return a short- or long-term rental, leasing companies can send lessors and dealers one when they ground a vehicle at lease end, and vehicle history report providers and online marketplaces can send sellers and buyers one before they finalize a transaction.

Privacy4Cars indicated that once users complete the process, both they and the commissioning business receive a certificate of deletion that documents the result.

In addition to its new deployment capabilities, Privacy4Cars expanded multi-lingual support in its app to now include 31 European languages, including all 24 official languages of the EU.

This latest app release adds eight official EU languages (Croatian, Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Maltese, Slovak, and Slovenian) along with Albanian, Bosnian, Russian, Serbian, and Ukrainian.

Privacy4Cars CEO Andrea Amico pointed out that 17 national data protection authorities in Europe have emphasized controllers’ obligation under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to delete personal data at vehicle handoffs.

“Our large-scale vehicle audits in Europe demonstrate that controllers’ current policies, terms and conditions, and well-intentioned but subjective attempts to delete personal data in vehicles consistently fail,” Amico said in a news release. “The new language additions and our DeleteLinks are geared at both helping companies actually comply with GDPR and deliver an unparalleled and effective peace-of-mind experience whenever customers hand off a vehicle to a business.

“Rather than relying on legal terms that shift responsibility to customers, which European regulators say GDPR doesn’t support, companies can now give their customers a simple way to protect their personal data, backed by the appropriate technical and organizational measures GDPR requires. We want to help companies show their customers real care, with a helpful, well-timed experience tailored to each vehicle,” continued Amico, who also is among the experts set to appear during Used Car Week that starts on Nov. 16 in San Diego.

The app update comes on the heels of Privacy4Cars’ two newest patent awards:

—U.S. Patent No. 12,748,887 extends Privacy4Cars’ existing patents from vehicles to include many classes of internet of things (IoT).

—U.S. Patent No. 12,748,888 builds on the same core invention, extending and strengthening Privacy4Cars’ proprietary and multi-patented data deletion methods.
