TrueCar Names Asbury Founder Gibson to Board

TrueCar has appointed the founder and former top executive of Asbury Automotive Group — whose background also includes executive roles with Chrysler, Ford and Subaru of America — to serve as a member of its board of directors.
Named to the position today is Tom Gibson, who founded Asbury in 1994 and served as its chairman, president and chief executive officer.
He also served in senior sales and marketing positions with Ford and Chrysler before moving over to Subaru of America, where he was president and chief operating officer.
“Tom provides a rare blend of dealer and manufacturer experience that will help him lead TrueCar as we evolve products and services in these sectors,” said Scott Painter, founder and CEO of TrueCar.
“TrueCar prides itself in aligning with experts and industry leaders who bring fresh insights to all aspects of the auto retailing industry,” Painter added. “With Tom on our board, we’ll enjoy leadership from a gentleman whose unique resume includes leading major manufacturers as well as large retailer groups.”
Currently, Gibson is a board member at Dealer Tire LLC and Alliance Inspection Management. Previously, he has served in the following positions:
—Past lead independent director of Ikon Office Solutions
—Chairman of the board of auto textile supplier Guilford Industries
—Past director of Chrysler LLC, Dealer Track, Falcon Financial, Subaru of America and Asbury Automotive Group.
Additionally, his experience also includes being trustee or board member of DePauw University, Glassboro State College, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the U.S. Ski Team, Subaru Foundation, Penjerdel Council and the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia.
