McLEAN, Va. -

The amount of vehicles from the 2013 model-year that entered the auction market last month climbed 24 percent, according to NADA Used Car Guide, which said this led to a slight increase in overall AuctionNet transactions for September.

Specifically, the AuctionNet auction volume for 2013 model-year vehicles was at 37,095 units for the four-week period ending Sept. 29, according to numbers provided by NADA UCG. This compares to 30,012 units for the prior four week period and marks a 24-percent uptick.

Overall, the volume for vehicles up to 8 years in age for the four-week period ending Sept. 29 was at 259,208 units, NADA UCG said in its latest Guidelines report.

This marked a 0.3-percent increase from the 258,403 AuctionNet transactions in the prior four-week period. Although modest, this gain is an improvement over the 2.2-percent decline in August.

Again, the 24-percent spike in 2013 model-year vehicles was the primary catalyst here.

In fact, the only other class to see an increase was the 2011 model-year group, which was up 1 percent from the prior four-week period with 33,921 units of AuctionNet auction volume, NADA UCG indicated.

Collectively, model-year 2006 and 2007 volume fell 0.8 percent, model-year 2008 and 2009 volume dipped 1.7 percent and model-year 2010 and 2011 volume was off 2.9 percent.  Volume for 2012 and 2013 model-year units was up a collective 5.5 percent.

Year-to-date, though, there still have been 2 percent fewer AuctionNet transactions of 1- to 8-year-old vehicles, overall.

Breaking that figure down, volume for 1- to 4-year-old units has climbed 10 percent so far this year, and 5- to 8-year-old volume has fallen 14 percent.

Diving deeper into the year-to-date total, NADA UCG pointed out that AuctionNet transactions for 1-year-old luxury midsize utility vehicles has skyrocketed in 2013, climbing 95 percent.

That increase has been spurred by the activity among Lincoln MKT and MKX vehicles, as 2013 model-year volumes have jumped by 1,043 units. Other models pushing this increase include vehicles like the BMW X5 (whose volume is up by 504 units) and the Infiniti JX (up 416 units), NADA UCG indicated.

The report also highlighted notable 1-year-old year-to-date volume gains for subcompact cars (up 39 percent, compact utilities (up 31 percent) and midsize utilities (up 31 percent).
