Value Buys Hot at Auction, Brasher Reports

In his post-sale report for Tuesday, John Brasher of Brasher’s Sacramento Auto Auction noted a particular used segment showing well in the lanes this week.
With dealers reporting good retail sales of late, Brasher said what’s “piping hot” on the used side is the market for cars priced at $12,000 to $15,000 and under.
“We saw that reflected in the lanes,” he said. “All the banks, rentals, dealer trades and our aged inventory did really well, especially in that price range.”
Brasher also said dealers are reporting new-car sales coming in slightly better than used sales in recent weeks.
“They say that later-model used cars are competing with new a little bit. And all the new car manufacturers want a piece of that growing new-car volume,” he said.
Rental companies are bringing many cars to the lanes each week, Brasher added, and aggressive promotions such as incentives and rebates are impacting the auction scene.
On a separate note, Brasher’s will host the annual dealer appreciation golf tournament on May 10, which raises funds for multiple sclerosis research.
