Make it six straight years of record certified pre-owned vehicle sales.

Autodata Corp. reported Thursday that there were 2.64 million CPO sales in 2016, another best-ever sum for this rapidly expanding market.

That beats year-ago figures by 3.5 percent, according to Autodata.

Appropriately enough, the final month of the year was the strongest December on record, with 232,317 CPO vehicles sold (up 2.4 percent year-over-year).  It capped the best fourth quarter ever, as dealers moved 641,945 certified vehicles for a 2.8-percent gain.

Additionally, 2016 was a best-ever CPO year for BMW, Fiat/Chrysler, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Mini, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Porsche, Smart, Subaru and Toyota, according to Autodata.

Not to mention, the year closed with these brands reporting best-ever months: BMW, Infiniti, Land Rover, Lexus, Porsche and Subaru..    

Domestics sold 899,365 certified units in 2016 (down 3 percent), while Asian brands moved 1.3 million units for a 10-percent hike, according to Autodata. European brands were relatively static (down 0.3 percent) with 441,189 certified sales.
