Avis Budget Group will be providing Lyft drivers on-demand access to Avis vehicles through a partnership announced Monday between the companies.

The rental company is adding thousands of Avis vehicles to the Lyft Express Drive program throughout North America.

With this Avis partnership, Lyft drivers can reserve rentals from Avis from the Lyft app.

“With a global fleet of approximately 600,000 vehicles, we are well positioned to take advantage of the continued growth in the ride hailing space by providing on-demand access to a clean, safe and well-maintained vehicle for those who want to become ride hailing drivers,” said Joe Ferraro, president of Americas at Avis Budget, said in a news release. “We look forward to working with Lyft to address the growing demand for transportation in key markets, and to further leveraging our assets.”

Lyft chief operating officer Jon McNeill added: “Our partnership with Avis Budget Group allows us to provide new and existing drivers who are seeking a reliable source of income with more quality options when choosing a vehicle.

“And as more drivers decide to give up their own cars, they can continue to earn with Lyft as we expand the Express Drive program,” McNeill said. 

The Express Drive program provides Lyft drivers “all-inclusive rentals with unlimited mileage,” according to its website.

Drivers have flexibility in when they wish to return the car. The program also includes insurance and standard maintenance, and it allows drives to use the vehicle for both Lyft and personal uses. There is no mileage cap.

Lyft drivers can tap into weekly rates when they rent cars from the company’s partners, which according to the Lyft Express Drive website, also includes companies like Hertz and Flexdrive.

“When you rent through Express Drive, you can offset weekly costs by giving Lyft rides,” the Express Drive site reads.

It also includes a rewards program.

“Express Drive Rental Rewards are designed to make your rental more affordable. If you give a certain number of Lyft rides, some or all of your rental costs can be covered by Rental Rewards,” the site adds.
