Mazda Recalls 2001 & 2002 Tributes

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials indicated that Mazda began a recall last week of the Tribute from the 2001 and 2002 models years.
NHTSA explained that the recall stems from the possibility of the brake master cylinder reservoir cap leaking brake fluid.
If the brake fluid leaks, officials fear the fluid could come in contact with the antilock brake system module wiring harness connector. As a result, corrosion may develop in the electrical connector, leading to melting, smoking or possible fire.
The automaker indicated the recall includes 52,390 units manufactured between April 20, 2000 and July 19, 2002.
Mazda told NHTSA it already is beginning to notify owners, telling them to take their vehicles to franchised dealers that will replace the brake master cylinder reservoir cap and modify the ABS electrical system for free.
In the meantime, owners can contact Mazda at (248) 393-5990.
