Auto Remarketing Canada to launch Women & Automotive: Profiles in Leadership

W&A17_FP_Early Reg_digital_ads_1200x627

As part of the Special Conference Edition coverage in our March/April issue,  Auto Remarketing Canada is launching a new feature called Women & Automotive: Profiles in Leadership.

In conjunction with the Women & Automotive: Canadian Leadership Forum, we will be compiling a handful of profile stories about women in the Canadian auto industry who exemplify the best in leadership.

Know someone who fits that description? If so, we want your input.

If you have a suggestion for an auto industry leader(s) for us to profile, please email joverby@cherokeemediagroup.com by Feb. 3 with the following:

  • Her name, position and company.
  • Her email
  • Her top leadership qualities.

Please note that this is not limited to the used-car business.

These folks can be from any area of the Canadian automotive industry at large: retail, wholesale, OEM, dealers, finance, aftermarket, technology, vendors and so on.

Top appraisal, trade-in trends at Ford stores

15FordF150_03(1)

In April, the Ford F-150 was again the most appraised vehicle in Canada and it continues to hold the No. 1 spot year-to-date, according to the latest Dealertrack Tradetracker report.

It also continues to be the domestic vehicle most often looked at by both domestic and import trade-in owners in Canada, the company said.

(The Toyota Rav4 holds this distinction among import vehicles.)

Appropriately enough, then, Dealertrack spotlighted Ford as its brand of the month for April.

According to the report, the non-make vehicles appraised most often at Ford dealerships in April were the Mazda 3, the RAM 1500 and the Lincoln MKX, respectively.

So far this year, the top three have been the RAM 1500, the GMC Sierra 1500 and the Mazda 3, in that order.

And when customers with a trade-in went to a Ford dealership, the vehicles they checked out most often in April were the F-150, Ford Escape and Ford Edge, respectively.

Year-to-date, it has been the same vehicles in the same order.

The Executive Issue: Nominations due Friday

shutterstock_190905743

Executives in the Canadian used-car and remarketing space juggle a host of responsibilities.

They develop sensible strategies and lead teams to execute those plans, all the while remaining competitive and ready to adapt to the changing automotive environment.

In an effort to recognize the special individuals who hold these positions, Auto Remarketing Canada is asking companies in the Canadian used-car space to nominate top-levels executives to be included in our May/June edition, “The Executive Issue.”

Send your nominations and responses to the questions listed below to Auto Remarketing Canada senior editor Joe Overby at joverby@cherokeemediagroup.com.

— What moves has the executive made to place the company into position to be successful?

— How does the executive cultivate a productive environment that inspires the organization at all levels?

— Why is this executive an example of successful leader who lifts the value of not just the company but also the entire industry?

Have a longstanding relationship with or report to an executive who should be included in “The Executive Issue” ?

Act soon.

Nominations will be accepted through Friday May 6.

Along with it being, “The Executive Issue,” the May/June edition of Auto Remarketing Canada will also focus on Canada’s top independent dealers.

Emcee & Facebook on board for Women & Automotive

shutterstock_242470672

The inaugural Women & Automotive event is coming up soon — in fact, the new conference will hit the automotive scene in less than a month on April 6 at the Westin Harbour Castle.

And conference organizers at Cherokee Media Group are happy to make two exciting announcements concerning the Women & Automotive agenda.

First off, attendees will be privy to a familiar face who will emcee the event, and secondly, Facebook will be presenting the closing keynote for the conference.

Petrine Gentile, an award-winning automotive journalist for The Globe and Mail, will be the emcee of the upcoming event.

And many attendees may recognize her voice, as Gentile appears regularly on TV, covering the automotive beat for CTV’s Canada AM, CTV News Channel, CP24's AutoShop and BNN.

She also produced 18 seasons of the national TV show “Car/Business” with Jeremy Cato and Michael Vaughan, which was broadcast weekly on CTV and BNN.

In other exciting news from the upcoming event, Facebook Canada is on board for the closing keynote at Women & Automotive.

Erin Elofson, head of financial services at Facebook Canada, will offer her expertise to close the event at 4:15 p.m. (ET) on April 6. Elofson will also present at the Auto Remarketing Canada Conference, scheduled for April 4-5.

Erin joined Facebook Canada in May 2014 to support its mission to make the world more open and connected.

As head of financial services, she builds on her passion for technology and the Canadian financial services industry to lead a team that develops innovative partnerships with Canadian financial institutions to accelerate their growth.

Attendees will also be privy to an inspirational message from Maria Soklis, president of Cox Automotive Canada, to start the event off at 8:15 a.m.

Make sure to check out the full agenda, and don’t forget to register soon!

If you’re staying at the Westin Harbour Castle for Women & Automotive, be sure to make your reservation by the end of the day TODAY.

That’s the last day we’ll be able to offer our exclusive conference rate of CA$219/night, and you’ll be subject to the hotel’s rack rate when you book after that date.

For more information, see www.womenandautomotive.com, and don’t forget to join the conversation with #WeAuto2016.

AR Canada opens nominations for Remarketing’s Under 40

_MG_5005

You know those young people that don’t just have great ideas — they act on them? Or how about those up-and-coming industry stars that aren’t afraid of disruption, but rather, invite it? And everyone knows at least one entrepreneur that doesn’t just dream up a solution to a problem, they bring the solution to market, and find the right companies to back it.

If that brings anyone to mind, then make sure to nominate the auto industry star you know for the AR Canada Remarketing’s Under 40 awards.

The nomination period for the awards program opens today and will close Feb. 26.

To nominate a deserving colleague who hasn’t hit the big 4-0 yet, simply fill out Remarketing’s Under 40 nomination form.

From exceptional young dealers and impressive entrepreneurs, to founders of digital marketing start-ups and second-generation auction general managers, the Canadian auto industry is full of young men and women who deserve recognition.

All nominees will be recognized during a ceremony at the upcoming Auto Remarketing Canada Conference, in Toronto at the Westin Harbour Castle, scheduled for April 4-5.

In 2015, Auto Remarketing Canada honored the first round of Remarketing’s Under 40.

The group of 40 industry stars included auction managers, dealer principals, automotive digital marketing experts, third-party listing providers, bankers, lenders and more. Check out the inaugural class of Remarketing’s Under 40.

What do all these professionals have in common? They make the “remarketing world” go round.

Without all these players — and more — the automotive remarketing industry wouldn’t have turned into the massive, successful market it is today.

And as the Canadian automotive industry continues to grow at a rapid rate,  more and more young leaders are rising up within the remarketing ranks.

Help us honor another group of deserving auto industry players by nominating a colleague or co-worker for the 2016 class of Remarkeitng’s Under 40.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Auto Remarketing Canada editor Sarah Rubenoff at srubenoff@autoremarketing.com or (919) 674-6020 at ext. 140.

New event on women, diversity in auto headed to Toronto

twitter

A brand new conference focusing on diversity in the Canadian automotive industry is headed to Toronto this spring.

Cherokee Media Group — who also hosts the Auto Remarketing Canada Conference — will be launching a new event, titled, “Women & Automotive.”

The day-long conference, designed for men and women and scheduled for April 6 at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto, aims to engage the industry in discussion surrounding challenges and opportunities impacting women in the automotive industry today, as well as the overall growing diversity in the Canadian automotive workforce.

“We are very excited to bring what is bound to be another industry-leading event to Canada, especially one that will be focusing on diversity in the ever-growing auto industry,” said Bill Zadeits, conference chair and president of Cherokee Media Group. “We hope you will join us in our mission to highlight and discuss the changing landscape in the auto biz as well as promote diversity and grow opportunities in this evolving industry for all.”

From recruiting and retaining women employees in the dealership, to expanding opportunities within the manufacturer, finance, banking, insurance and supplier segments of the Canadian automotive industry—the day-long event covers it all.

The number of women in the automotive industry is growing at a rapid pace, and this calls for more leadership, education, networking and growth opportunities for these professionals. The upcoming conference will feature insight from industry-leading experts on the topics of recruiting and retaining women in the dealership, diversity in the auto industry, the power of networking and more.

Speaking of networking, the event will feature a Mentorship Program that will work to connect seasoned professionals with those just starting out in the automotive business.

Cherokee Media Group will be enlisting the help of an expert Board of Advisers to help make this unique event the best that it can be.

The Women and Automotive 2016 Board of Advisers is as follows:

  • Cheryl Munce, Auto Industry Consultant, MyDealerOnline – Chair of the Board of Advisors
  • Jean Boutzis, Director of Sales and Business Development, Performance Publications Media Group – Board Member
  • Christie Groom, Director, Business Development, Sym-Tech Financial Services – Board Member
  • Wendy Ladd, Account Manager, Pfaff Leasing – Board Member
  • Kathy Ward, Executive Chairman, Canadian Black Book – Board Member

Registration for Woman & Automotive will begin in early January. Early-bird registration is $295 until March 4. At that time, the price will go up to $395. But, for those attending the Auto Remarketing Canada Conference, as well, Cherokee Media Group has a special deal for you.

When registering for the Auto Remarketing Canada Conference, attendees will have the chance to register for the Women & Automotive event for the discounted price of $195.

We are also currently holding a Call for Speakers for the upcoming event. More information can be found here.

TADA comes on as partner for 2016 AR Canada Conference

_MG_3690

Auto Remarketing Canada and the Trillium Automobile Dealers Association (TADA) are pleased to announce a partnership for the upcoming industry leading conference in April.

The Auto Remarketing Canada Conference will return to the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto on April 4 and April 5 for another event full of networking, analysis from the industry’s leading experts, presentations from top vendors and more.

And make sure to keep your calendar open for April 6, as well. Auto Remarketing Canada will be launching a brand new event for our audience that day, which will be announced next week.

This year, as part of TADA’s involvement as an Industry Partner to the conference, the association will develop and host a workshop at the event that will focus on the topics of attracting, hiring, training and retaining millennials in the dealership.

Todd Bourgon, executive director at TADA, explained that millennials are not understood by many in terms of value systems, such as shopping habits and preferences.

“We would like to panel individuals that could speak to this and help attendees better understand the shopper of the future and how to prepare for that, as well as how to successfully attract and employ them,” he shared.

Bill Zadeits, conference chairman and president of Cherokee Media Group, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership: “We are thrilled to have TADA on board as an Industry Partner for what’s bound to be the best Auto Remarketing Canada Conference yet.

“TADA’s workshop topic is of prime relevance as the millennial generation is now the largest and most diverse generation in the Canadian population,” he added.

Also, as part of the partnership, TADA will be promoting the event to their dealer members. Last year, Auto Remarketing Canada drew its biggest crowd yet with over 700 attendees, which included almost 300 dealers. The 2015 expo hall also doubled in size — the largest the conference has ever seen — featuring a total of 34 companies.

“We are happy to be partnering with Auto Remarketing Canada to continue to grow the event that hones in on current and relevant topics for dealers and remarketers,” said Bourgon of TADA. “Bringing dealers together to network and learn is crucial to moving the industry forward and finding solutions to today’s industry challenges.”

Registration for the Conference begins in early January. The Early Bird registration rate of $795 will be available until Friday, March 4. Following that date, registration rate will increase to $995. But you don’t have to wait that long to reserve your room for the event. See here to reserve your spot at the Westin Harbour Castle today.

Auto Remarketing Canada is already busy ensuring this year’s conference attendees are privy to even more great content this year.

For example, the first-ever “Canadian Subprime Auto Finance Benchmarking Study” will be presented by Dwayne Furmidge, director America’s for Benchmark Consulting International. The study results presentation will be offered exclusively to Auto Remarketing Canada Conference attendees.

And this is just the first of many announcements of new offerings and partnerships at 2016’s upcoming event. Stay tuned!  And make sure to check out our conference website for updates as the event approaches.

2015 AR Canada Conference Breaks Attendance, Expo Hall Record

_MG_6700

Where were you Monday and Tuesday of this week?

Chances are either you or your colleagues traveled to the 8th annual Auto Remarketing Canada Conference in Toronto, presented by CarProof.

This year, the conference was once again held at the Westin Harbour Castle, touting 735 registered attendees, 284 of which were dealers.

These numbers illustrate significant growth, drawing over 100 more registered attendees than the 2014 event.

This year’s expo hall also doubled in size — the largest the conference has ever seen — featuring a total of 34 companies.

Attendees and speakers included dealers, auctioneers, remarketers, consignors, OEMs, finance execs, digital marketers and more.

For nearly a decade, the Auto Remarketing Canada Conference has been preparing the industry for the road ahead. Attendance at the conference continues to grow year-over-year, with 2015 setting a new benchmark for both number of participants and size of the expo hall.

“Each year, we are impressed and humbled by the support and interest from our Canadian partners in the annual Auto Remarketing Canada Conference. This year, our growth was exponential, and we want to offer our sincere thanks to our sponsors, exhibitors, speakers and attendees,” said Bill Zadeits, conference chairman and publisher of Auto Remarketing Canada. “We are already looking forward to 2016 and are convinced it will be another record breaking year.”

Speakers included well-known names in the remarketing industry such as Paul Potratz, chief operating officer at Potratz Advertising; Michael McCarthy, vice president and general manager of Dealertrack Canada; Brad Hart, chief operating officer at TradeRev, and many, many more.

This year’s attendees were given the chance to be involved in a variety of new offerings, including our closing reception, "A Celebration of Success.”

During the event, Auto Remarketing Canada and reception sponsors — DealerTrack Technologies, SiriusXM, ADESA, TRADER, SCI MarketView, Manheim, NextGear Capital, Kia Motors Finance, Hyundai Motor Finance and TradeRev — offered attendees appetizers and specialty martinis, as well as the highlight of the night: a charity auction to benefit Make-A-Wish Canada.

Generous attendees took home signed hockey jerseys, a family-stay package at the Westin Harbour Castle, and tickets to the Ruth Hart Stephens and Bob Beattie Golf Tournament.

Together, Auto Remarketing Canada Conference attendees and sponsors helped raise $5,700 for the central Ontario and Toronto chapters of Make-A-Wish Canada.

Didn’t make it this year? Well, we have you covered. Mark your calendars for April 4-5, 2016, where the next Auto Remarketing Canada Conference will be held at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto.

Stay tuned to Auto Remarketing Canada next week for an inside look into some of the insight and analysis from the 2015 Auto Remarketing Canada Conference speakers.
